Matthew 8:1-3 (NIV 2011)

1 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

Reflection:

The man with leprosy dared to be bold. He made quite a bold statement to Jesus. And his boldness mixed with faith resulted in more than just the healing of the body, but an affirmation of his faith because Jesus was willing. How sweet are His words, how kind is our Lord towards us!

Response:

We can be encouraged by the man’s example and be bold ourselves in approaching the Lord. Whatever weighs most heavily on our hearts, let’s turn to the Lord and boldly make our request in prayer. Whether God answers now, tomorrow or within a longer timeframe, let’s receive in faith that He hears us and He is willing.

The Crofton Patch reports that Eric Tedrow ’13, psychology, is the driving force behind a new skate park that will soon open in Crofton.

Tedrow, a rollerblader, saw the need for a place where skaters could practice their sport. “Give children a place where they can push the boundaries of the sport. They need an outlet for that activity,” he told the website.

Tedrow hopes to one day use the psychology skills he is learning at UMBC to research alternative athletes. “What makes them get out there and want to risk it all? There has to be a pattern,” said Tedrow.

The story, “Building a Safe Place to Skate,” appeared on the site on September 18.

One-nights!  Monday missions will be in Lecture Hall 2 at 7pm.  Thursday missions will be in the Chemistry Bunker at 7pm until we can reserve a lecture hall.

Elections!  Our current nominees for the Secretary position are Andrew Allison and Ben Harris.  We will have debates and elections on Monday, September 26, after the mission.  We will be reusing the debate questions from last spring, which are listed on the website.

Pregame meetings!  We will hold three pregame meetings for Game 1, on Wednesday, September 28th, Thursday, September 29th, and Friday, September 30th.  You must attend one of these pregame meetings if you want to play the first one-week game.  The first two are open to all players, and the one on Friday is a streamlined meeting for Vets only.  If you have not played a full game before, you may only attend one of the first two pregame meetings.  All meetings will be held in Lecture Hall 2 at 7 pm.  If you cannot attend any of these meetings, please email us as soon as possible, and we will arrange something.

A one-week game!  Game 1 will start midnight on the morning of Monday, October 3.  Please note that we pushed the game back a week.  (It was originally scheduled for September 26.)  There will be missions every day, at 7 pm, in Lecture Hall 2.  More details to follow.

In this political witch-hunt, no Republican is safe.

Obama for America recently started the website AttackWatch.com. The site gives the average person the opportunity to report criticisms of the president and his initiatives. This is supposed to help the American public “Get the facts. Fight the smears”, the website’s slogan.

Allegations and responses are stored in the “Attack Files”.

This article in the Wall Street Journal calls the website a “Twitter Disaster”, noting that the site’s twitter feed is is full of “zingers”. Not exactly going as planned, we suppose.
