Construction of new Patapsco addition began in fall of 2010. Students who were currently living in Patapsco and nearby Potomac would bear the brunt of waking up to construction as early at 7a.m. in the morning. It came to be worth it a year later as the new addition, which currently
houses over 180 residents, opened for the first time in August. Megan Drain ’14, a previous Potomac resident, describes her thoughts on the addition. “I thought it looked really pretty,” she says when she first saw the addition. She also enjoys “the size of the bathrooms and the new
furniture.”

Each floor of new Patapsco has its own study room and common room, which the older residence halls don’t include. Drain particularly likes this “because in the older residence halls there would only be one
common room... it would be difficult if there were people trying to socialize and other people trying to study at once... but now we have separate rooms for that now.” Even though Drain and other residents don’t enjoy always having to swipe to visit friends next door in Old Patapsco, she is very happy with her decision to live in New Patapsco.

The New Patapsco addition wasn’t the only recently developed project on campus. A brand new basketball court was added outside True Grit’s, next door to Harbor, Potomac and Patapsco halls. Nevin Thankachen ’14, a regular on the court, says it’s “definitely a positive addition to campus, and it gives people a stress outlet.” He also praises its “convenient location” and the fact that “you can walk right outside and play or you can just sit and watch”. Despite his protests that he
thinks “the lights turn off way too early”, he admits “nothing beats playing basketball in the fresh air”.

Reflection:

“Beep…beep…beep.”  Most of us wake up every morning with the sound of an alarm clock beeping in our ears.  It reminds us to get up and get ready for the day.  In a similar way, the Sabbath was a reminder of all that God had done for the Israelites.  With each Sabbath, they remembered how God created the world and rested on the seventh day, and how with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, how He rescued them from slavery and sustained them in the wilderness.  But when Jesus came on the scene, it was no longer just a remembrance, but it became an experience.  He healed.  He restored. He rescued.  And when He healed, it was a sign that God was still rescuing and saving with His mighty hand and an outstretched arm.  Although it appeared like Jesus was breaking the Sabbath, He was actually observing it but in a deeper way and perfectly fulfilling its original intent to bring the ultimate rest for His people.

How do we remember all the things God has done in our lives?  We remember as we experience, we experience as we remember, and we do this over and over.  We believe that the same arm that stretched out to save us in the past reaches out to us to heal and restore us now.  Let’s bring to God all of the areas of our lives that need healing whether physical, emotional or spiritual.  Let’s believe in His power that heals us and trust that God’s hand is mighty for us.

Something strange is going on among the GOP presidential contenders…

They’re seeking Donald Trump’s approval!

Recently, several of the potential nominees have headed to New York City to meet with the Donald, who very publicly considered a shot at the presidency himself.

Aligning themselves with Trump could help Republicans in a GOP primary because conservatives who make up the base of the party generally cheer him. But candidates risk losing moderates, independents and other general election voters turned off by Trump’s crusade against Obama’s birth certificate.”

So far, Trump’s guest list includes Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Mitt Romney (who chose to forgo any photo op). The next candidate on his schedule is Herman Cain.

Will the Donald’s support make any difference once the primaries begin? Or, are these candidates just securing their spot on the first season of The Republican Apprentice?
