Distributed Approach for Mitigating Coverage Loss
in Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor networks

In a heterogeneous wireless sensor network, nodes with different sensing capabilities are dispersed throughout an area of interest. Nodes with similar capabilities are not necessarily collocated. When a node fails, the area in the vicinity of such a node is left uncovered and the application may be negatively impacted. In this paper, we present a distributed algorithm for mitigating the coverage loss caused by the failure of a sensor node. The proposed algorithm looks for one or multiple nodes that can be repositioned in order to fill the coverage gap. A search is conducted within the 2-hop neighborhood to identify a node or a combination of more than one node that can collectively possess the capabilities of the failed node. In order to maximize the performance of the network, the replaceable nodes are chosen such that there is a minimum coverage and connectivity impact on the network after replacement. In the addition, the distance a node will travel to replace the failed node is also taken into consideration to limit the recovery overhead.

Reflection:

Even while in prison, Joseph is called by the Lord to learn the skills of management. It is quite interesting that he managed the household of Potiphar, then learned the harsh life of those in the lowest sect of the society. Perhaps this was to teach him to remember the less fortunate when he becomes governor of Egypt in couple of years? Whatever the case, he is enrolled in God’s school of business management.

Response:

We are all enrolled in God’s school of life. Even if we may not understand why we must endure certain difficult circumstances sometimes, God is teaching us every step of the way how to live. Let’s spend some time praying, opening our hearts to the Spirit and thanking Him for His perfect wisdom and plan for our lives. If we are going through difficult circumstances, let’s ask for greater faith to persevere and trust.

Netflix has announced a 60% increasing in their pricing, dealing a blow to entertainment junkies all over.

Until now, customers of the online movie service were able to take advantage of both mailed DVDs and streaming video for $10 a month. The new pricing will make these services $8 a month…each!

According to The New York Times:

For millions of customers, the shift in price might change the daily calculus of an entertainment diet made up of a myriad of choices: cable television packages, online streams, Redbox rentals and iTunes downloads. The price increase spurred complaints from thousands of Netflix customers on Facebook and other Web sites, some of whom said they may now rely less on physical DVDs and more on online options.”

After 12 terms in the House, Rep. Ron Paul is choosing not to seek reelection.

The former OB/GYN and libertarian-leaning Congressman has represented the 14th district of Texas since 1997.

Now, he intends to put all of his time and energy into his 2012 presidential campaign.

I felt it was better that I concentrate on one election. It’s about that time when I should change tactics.”

Paul has ran for president twice before, in 1988 and 2008, and is largely considered a long shot for the 2012 GOP nomination.
