]]>Rare Book School (RBS) at the University of Virginia provides continuing-education opportunities for students from all disciplines and skill levels to study the history of written, printed, and digital materials with leading scholars and professionals in the field. Each summer, RBS offers a series of week-long courses on the history of the book and bibliography in Charlottesville, at remote partner institutions in Chicago, Philadelphia, and elsewhere, as well as online classes.
For the summer course sessions in Charlottesville, RBS is hiring summer assistants who will provide support in managing course sessions, catering, and other tasks related to the running of our summer programming.
RBS is seeking conscientious, detail-oriented, and service-driven undergraduate and graduate students as well as early career professionals to work as summer assistants in Charlottesville during the following weeks and weekends:
· 28 May–8 June (Pre-Week 1 training and Week 1)
· 6–15 June (Week 2)
· 3–13 July (Week 3)
· 18–27 July (Week 4)
· 25 July–3 August (Week 5)
The summer assistants will work in the days leading up to and following the dates of each course week. The starting wage for this position is $16 an hour, with time-and-a-half paid for hours worked over 40 hours.

2. UMBC Interdisciplinary CoLab: Paid Narrative-based Internship ($3,000 stipend and scholarship for 3-credit course, application deadline March 26)
CoLab is an in-person, paid summer internship in narrative-based research for UMBC undergraduates. Held during Summer Session One, student interns will work on interdisciplinary project teams to conduct research, create effective narratives, and develop public-facing final products that support the goals of on and off campus community-engaged organizations and scholars. Open to all majors, this is an excellent opportunity for students in STEM fields to learn to tell effective stories and for students in social science and humanities fields to gain research and technical skills.
Participants who successfully complete the internship receive a $3000 stipend and a tuition scholarship for the 3-credit internship course.
Program Dates
CoLab 2025 will be held during Summer Session One and meets in-person from Monday, June 2nd through Friday, June 27th. PLEASE NOTE: During these dates, student interns are required to dedicate Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to the in-person, on-campus internship. Participants will have preparatory work to complete on their own the week prior to the in-person start date of 6/2, and a final reflective paper to submit the week following the final in-person date of 6/27.

3. Student Peer Reviewers for Young Scholars in Writing (volunteer, flyer attached, application deadline March 28)
We’re excited to invite your students to participate as peer reviewers for the Young Scholars in Writing (YSW), a journal dedicated to publishing undergraduate research in writing studies. This is a fantastic opportunity for your students to develop their editorial and critical thinking skills while contributing to the academic community!
Peer-Reviewer Role: As a peer reviewer for YSW, students will play an important role in the submission review process. Their task will be to assess whether a submission meets the criteria for publication in YSW. By serving as peer-reviewers, students will be actively engaged in the editing process while gaining rewarding experience in writing, research, and publishing!
Who Should Apply: We are looking for students with an interest in writing and rhetoric who would like to engage with the academic publication process. Candidates should have a critical eye for detail, a strong understanding of writing studies, and the ability to engage with scholarly work thoughtfully.
