Dear Retrievers and Valued Transit Riders,

Forecasters in our region are calling for snow showers, sleet, and rain on Thursday, February 6, 2025, beginning in the morning and continuing until noon. We will continue monitoring conditions to ensure your safety while informing you about potential impacts to services.

UMBC Transit may experience delays, service suspensions, or closures depending on road conditions. Our team will assess conditions on an hourly basis. Please check here for the latest updates on inclement weather advisories and route changes.

Transit Tips for Safe Travel:

  • Dress warmly and prepare for slick surfaces due to potential snow or ice.
  • Use the Transit App for real-time location of your bus, and allow extra time to walk to your bus stop, and use caution when boarding UMBC buses.
  • Avoid running to catch the bus, especially during inclement weather.

The CBIC is almost here! The submission form for the annual Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition will be live February 10th, 2025!  

The CBIC is designed for students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture. Students selected to go to the final competition will be paired with mentors to flesh out their business idea. This year, the ABCEI will offer 2 tracks: the Technology & Innovation Track and Social Impact Track. Winners in each track can win up to $4,000 with an opportunity to win an additional $2,000 after a 6 month progress review. 

Here are the important dates to remember:

  • Deadline for submissions: March 3 at 1pm

  • Final Event: April 17 from 6:30 - 8:30pm at bwTECH South

This event will be taking place on Wednesday, February 5, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

We are hosting an informal gathering at Commons 318 and hope you will join us for coffee, tea and snacks!

We (Dr. Robin Cresiski and Yarazeth Medina) will be available to talk about the Grad Student and Postdoc Development Office (GSPD), PROMISE, CIRTL, SEA CIRTL Fellows, interests, career exploration, professional development opportunities, campus resources, and hopefully, create even more of an opportunity for you to meet fellow grad students in other departments. We would love to help you develop a deeper sense of community here on campus. If you just feel like stopping for free coffee, you are more than welcome to do so as well! We will have representatives from the Latin and Hispanic Graduate Student Association and the Black Graduate Student Organization stopping by to talk about the importance to joining student groups on campus for information, resources and to amplify your voices.
