Krupar's paper on 19 Day Radio Burst highlighted in NASA and Science media

Vratislav Krupar's (672/UMBC) recent 2026 paper "Unprecedented 19 Day Type IV Radio Burst as a Corotating Electron Reservoir" published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters (ApJL) was featured in several outlets. NASA Science published a news brief titled "NASA Missions Track Record-Breaking Radio Burst from Sun", explaining that "the previous record for such a burst [known as Type IV bursts] was just 5 days," and that "the findings are helping scientists better identify radio bursts and improve space weather forecasting." Additionally, "To better understand the unusual burst, researchers combined observations from several spacecraft positioned throughout the inner solar system. The missions included NASA's STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory), Parker Solar Probe, and Wind spacecraft, along with ESA's (the European Space Agency) and NASA's Solar Orbiter mission."

The paper also received significant coverage on Phys.org, ScienceDaily, and Al Jazeera Arabic. Two of Dr. Krupar's GPHI colleagues are co-authors on this paper: Oksana Kruparova and Andreas Weiss (both 672/UMBC). As of this writing, his paper is the second-most-read article in The ApJL.
