Announcement: New Bus Stop Additions and Updates
Improved access to existing Transit bus routes - Spring 2025
Dear Valued Riders and Campus Community,
In keeping with our mission to be Safe, Reliable, and Responsive, we are excited to announce several updates and additions to our bus routes to enhance accessibility and service for our riders. These changes will take effect on Monday, January 27, 2025, for the Spring 2025 Semester.
Please note that while the bus stop signs for these locations are currently being manufactured, they will be installed shortly after the launch date. Here are the details of these updates:
-
Relocated Stop (#6): Baltimore St. & MLK Jr. Blvd.
- The stop has been moved to a more central location outside The Harbor Bank of Maryland building.
-
Reinstalled Stop (#11): Frederick Rd & Bishop’s Ln.
- During the upcoming stop installations, this stop will be reinstalled with new anti-theft hardware.

Introducing Kol Yisrael: Home & Homeland! This 6-session series explores the Jewish diaspora relationship to Israel, looking to classical, rabbinic, and modern Jewish wisdom to engage a contemporary understanding of peoplehood, responsibility, home, and homeland.

MEMS Iannone Travel Abroad Fellowship
Deadline: Feb 1st
The Caroline Iannone Travel Abroad Fellowship provides around $1200 to go towards a MEMS student's research abroad.
This year is the third year we are offering this award.
Past winners include Amina Thiam (History) and Leonardo Swafford (English), and both went on to do amazing work from the research they did.
Supplementary questions applicants will need to answer are:
- Where do you plan to travel and what archive(s) will you visit? Have you made sure the archives will be open during your stay? Have you gotten any approvals you might need from the archives to visit?
- What are the goals of your research? How do you imagine using your findings?
- This scholarship covers $1200 in travel expenses. What is your plan for obtaining the rest of the money needed for this trip?

Save-a-Swipe is a meal swipe donation program sponsored by Retriever Essentials that supports UMBC students who are experiencing financial hardship and experiencing food insecurity.

Together in rich community, students will explore ancient and modern Jewish texts on dating, gender expression, romantic love, and so much more. The SLR Jewish Learning Fellowship is guaranteed to deepen your worldview and your relationships!

The UMBC Department of Education Research Seminar continues in Spring 2025 with a presentation by Professor Shannon Sauro. Her talk reports on the findings of a scoping review of research on fans of Korean popular media (e.g. K-pop, K-dramas) to explore what fan practices they engage in to learn Korean language and culture in the digital wilds.

"J Camps, located at the JCC of Greater Baltimore, is looking for energetic, dedicated staff members who are interested in working in a fun, creative camp environment this summer.
Our programming has a variety of focuses including aquatics, arts & culture, athletics, nature, science and more with a foundation of Judaism. In addition, our training includes child development workshops, skill sharing, and certification in Basic Water Safety and CPR. We hire on a rolling basis. Our main summer season is June 23 – August 15, 2025, and we offer excellent camper discounts for summer staff. While most of our positions are full-time, we do have a few that run for only select weeks."

As our team continues to develop and enhance our learning and development offerings for the campus, it is critical that we stay connected to the pulse and this is where you come in! As we understand your motivation, challenges, and desires, we can all help shape the future of professional development and continue UMBC’s legacy as a Great College to Work For!
To enable focused conversation, we have created 4 separate virtual focus group sessions for different populations:
New Hires - February 11th from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Faculty - February 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Staff - February 24th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Manager/Leader - February 26th from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
