As the semester comes to a quick close we want to take a moment and attempt to bring this group together over the summer! I have built a Doodle poll that will close May 15th. We are looking to find a lunch hour during the weeks of June 15th, July 13th and July 22nd.

Announcement of Upcoming System Enforcement of Common Forms and End of NIH’s Leniency Period

Purpose

This Notice provides the key dates that were announced in the ‘Expectations’ section of the previous Guide Notice (see NOT-OD-26-033) and important guidance on the adjusted implementation timeline for Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support. It contains updates and reminders for successful creation and submission of the Common Forms.

Effective Date

The current leniency period previously communicated in NOT-OD-26-033 will end on May 7, 2026, the final AIDS standard receipt date for Cycle 1. Use of the Common Forms for Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support, and NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement will be required for all application due dates and Just-In-Time (JIT), Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR), and Prior Approval submissions on or after May 8, 2026.

During the remainder of the leniency period, NIH will continue to provide system warnings and will not withdraw applications containing the NIH Biosketch and NIH Other Support format pages, or non-compliant Common Forms. On May 8, 2026, system warnings will change to errors that will stop any submission not using compliant Common Forms. This timing will also provide applicants with additional time to address errors before the May 25, 2026 standard receipt date for Cycle 2.

Residents are eligible to apply for a late stay if their permanent address is more than 50 miles (Distance D) from UMBC and they are:

• Graduating,
• Volunteering with Graduation, or
• An International Student with International Travel 

This form is for individual residents seeking a Late Stay for the current Spring 2026 semester. This form is not for residents with group-approved late stays. If you are already part of an approved late stay group, you do NOT need to request a late stay. Please contact your group leader if you have questions about your late stay date.

All End of Semester Late Stay Requests can be submitted via the Housing Portal under Forms & Requests

On 5/5/2026 at 12pm we will have our last scheduled webinar for this school year on navigating international collaborations.   This will be a joint webinar from ORPC and the Center for Global Engagement, we will discuss best practices, compliance considerations and what resources UMBC has for faculty and staff who want to engage in international collaborations.

SACNAS is hosting a Personal Statement Workshop in partnership with the Career Center this Monday, May 4, from 12-1pm in ILSB 201.

Join us to learn how to make your personal statement stand out. Whether you're applying for internships, research positions, grad school, or med school, this is a great opportunity to strengthen your writing.

Our speaker, Adam Morris, Assistant Director of Internships and Employment at the Career Center, will share what reviewers look for, and answer your questions. He regularly conducts resume, cover letter, and personal statement reviews, bringing valuable insight into what makes an applicant compelling.

The session will cover core strategies for writing a strong personal statement, including structure, effective storytelling (showing vs telling), and how to get started with confidence.
