URAs provide up to $1,500 to undergraduate students to support their research, scholarship, or creative work with a UMBC faculty mentor. UMBC students of all years and disciplines are invited to apply, as long as they remain enrolled at UMBC long enough to complete the proposed work.

Applications require a research proposal and mentor statement of support.

Hello Everyone! This post is to flag that immigrant appreciation day is 1 week out! LHFA and AAAFSC are co-organizing "UMBC Immigrant Recognition Day" again this year with student groups on campus (HLSU, SACNAS, etc.). The event is scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, May 1st. 


We also want to flag that May 1st 10:00-10:50am, ITE 238 there will be the Graduate Student Panel: "Navigating Grad School as an Immigrant" hosted by the Latinx & Hispanic Graduate Student Association (us), the Black Graduate Student Organization, and the Nigerian Graduate Student Association. A few discussion topics include: 1) what are issues faced by immigrant grad students, 2) how does being an immigrant shape the grad school experience, and 3) how do we build a support system. These is not an exhaustive list, but can serve as a starting point to guide the conversation.

What are you looking forward to the most about your Internship? 

Before I started, I was most excited to step foot in a real lab and work on projects on my own.

What was the best part of your Internship OR What was the biggest learning moment of your Internship ?

As this was my first internship, the graduate student I worked with was very accommodating and I was able to learn a lot of new techniques including gel-electrophoresis, western blot, and NanoDrop.

What advice do you have for students who are interested in getting involved in research or an internship?

Go for it! Even if the topic is not exactly what you’re interested in, the experience can help hone your interest and maybe introduce a new one.

NOBCChE, ChewMBC, NSBE, AIChE

What are your goals after graduation?

PhD in Biomedical Engineering
