We are holding club elections in April (Date TBD) Hey everyone, per our club constitution we will be holding elections for all positions sometime in April (TBD). The terms will start May 1st, and will continue to next May 1st. The positions we have are President, Vice president, Treasurer, Secretary, event Coordinator, and Historian. We also have volunteer positions called event staff where you help brainstorm events and run them. If you would like to run for a position, then please prepare a short speech or slide show to be shown during elections. Elections will be held in the weightlifting discord in general Voice channel. 

Brief explanation of each role:

President: Communicates with the school, the RAC, and other management to schedule events, get permission for things, make sure all club documents are in order, etc.

Vice President: Works with  president and other officers to plan events, works with the president to direct other officers to make sure events run smoothly.

Treasurer: Manages the organizations funds, works with other officers to plan fundraisers, and ensures the club follows financial rules and guidelines.

Secretary: Works with the president and vice president to plan events, send event reminders in myUMBC page and discord, and make sure all officers are up to speed on events.

Event Coordinator/communications officer: monitoring the club discord to ensure members are following the club rules and school policy. Coordinate and plan various events with the approval of the board, and manage the club Instagram account to advertise the club and events.

Historian: Takes pictures and videos at club events, works with event Coordinator/communications officer to post on the Instagram, and help spread awareness about the club and planned events.

Event staff (Non-board voluntary position): Works with the board to brainstorm events help run them.

On behalf of the International Society for Fish Endocrinology, it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 10th International Symposium on Fish Endocrinology.  This platform will provide a unique and timely opportunity to accelerate understanding and the application of technologies by bringing together researchers and professionals. This will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and collaboration among scientists worldwide. In addition, the symposium will encourage and foster career development of junior members.  

The specific aims for the 10th ISFE include the following:

  1. Present the state of the art and progress in basic knowledge of fish endocrinology.
  2. Introduce new fields of research such as functional genomic, Translational endocrinology and integrative action and cross-talk between hormone systems.
  3. Facilitate multidisciplinary collaborations.
  4. Educate industrial scientists about advances made in the science of fish endocrinology.
  5. Introduce biotechnical and translational challenges and initiate discussions, solutions, and collaborations.

If you've worked hard throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, you may be interested in receiving an award for your efforts! CelebratingOrgs is an annual end of year event where awards will be presented to honor and recognize student organizations for their valuable work at UMBC. The event is scheduled for May 2nd, 2024, from 7 pm-10 pm.

Nominations for awards, RSVPs, and visual content submissions are now OPEN! Student organizations can nominate their favorite organizations based on a series of categories. 

  • To nominate, simply complete the Award Nominations form.
    • Nominations for awards will close on March 29th, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
  • If you're a student officer who would like to attend CelebratingOrgs, you can register by completing the RSVP form.
Visual Content 
We're also opening up submissions of visual content from student organizations that will be displayed in a slideshow format during the event. Pictures and videos should be relevant to your student organization such as pictures or videos from your general body meetings, your large or small-scale events your student organization did over the 2023-2024 academic year!

In addition, we're looking for student organization leaders interested in recording short, 30-second to 1-minute video clips answering a question about their experience leading a student organization. These clips will be combined into one video screening that will be presented during CelebratingOrgs. If you're interested, please fill out the attached interest form below, and a Student Government Association officer will reach out to you for further steps!
