Grad Students: Serve as an Orientation Advisor in January!

Dear Graduate Students,

The Office for Academic & Pre-Professional Advising has openings available for Winter Orientation Advisors! Advisors meet with incoming students VIRTUALLY during the month of January in one-on-one sessions to plan out and register for classes. No previous experience is required, and we will provide all training necessary!

Besides compensation, this is a rare chance for graduate students to gain professional and interpersonal experience. Depending on your field, your time as a student may not open you up to many client-facing interactions, and this is a pathway to gaining that experience. If you are considering ANY career path where importance is placed on the ability to interact with clients in a positive manner, this is a TERRIFIC opportunity to add this valuable experience to your resume. If you are considering a career in academia, meanwhile, advising experience specifically is highly sought-after in faculty openings.

Advising will be offered over the course of several days throughout the month of January. Upon hire, you will be given the opportunity to select which days you are available to advise, and then will be compensated at the rate of $100 per afternoon session and $50 per evening or morning session.

We are offering informational sessions for anyone interested or who even just MIGHT be interested in finding out about this exciting opportunity to expand their skillsets, make meaningful connections, serve their departments, and get paid!

NEXT WEEK MONDAY (10/16) at noon, in-person at Sherman Hall (B-Wing) 220

NEXT WEEK THURSDAY (10/19) at 5:30, online at https://umbc.webex.com/meet/korossy1

Please make sure that all cover letters are ENTIRELY and ONLY your own work -- cover letters that have been generated by or with the assistance of AI will not be considered; neither will cover letters that were adapted from templates online. Cover letters should highlight interpersonal and transferable skills, the value that this experience could provide you as an applicant, and omit any information not relevant to this job, such as technical skills.
