To all chip users,

The scheduled downtime for today has concluded. A few compute nodes are still in the "drain" state. This is expected as the system slowly reboots all compute notes not running jobs so that they can "pick up" the updates that have been put into place throughout the day.

Users can resume normal operation of the cluster.

Note that DoIT Research Computing and Data staff are still working to assess and resolve filesystem issues related to RRStor (Ceph) performance, see this posting for details.

    • 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM
    • 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Position Duration: August 17, 2026 – May 21, 2027

Do you have an innovative, evidence-based idea for exploring or assessing student learning? Your idea may be appropriate for a Hrabowski Fund for Innovation award proposal. The deadline for spring submissions is March 27, 2026.

There are four possible categories of the two-year award:

Seed Awards have a budget totaling $3,500 or less for the 24-month period. These awards may be for projects that are smaller in scope and/or more speculative in nature.

Adaptation Awards have a budget totaling $10,000 or less for the 24-month period. These awards support the adaptation and implementation of existing successful innovations into other courses, programs, or disciplines.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Awards have a budget totaling $10,000 or less for the 24-month period. These awards support the collection and analysis of data on the effect of interventions on student learning and success with the purpose of public dissemination and review.

Implementation and Research Awards have a budget of $3,500 or greater, up to the total maximum amount of $25,000 for the 24-month period. These awards support truly innovative, larger projects.

Entinex and Design Rosetta are hosting a Lean Coffee: AI conversation from 7:30-9:30am on Tuesday morning, March 17. No speakers. No slides. Just structured, participant-driven discussion about the AI topics people actually care about right now. If you work in startups, industry, education, government, or just want grounded AI conversation — you're welcome.

Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, build an agenda, and begin talking. Conversations are directed and productive because the agenda for the meeting was democratically generated. 

The free, open community event will take place at bwtech@UMBC SOUTH, Glenmore Café, 1450 South Rolling Road. The meeting will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants.
