Departments will soon have the ability to view nonexempt applications as soon as they are submitted in Page Up and in New status. Currently, nonexempt applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications by a member of the Talent Acquisition team prior to being forwarded to the hiring department. In order to align the nonexempt process with the exempt staff process, the hiring manager and/or search committee chair will now review nonexempt applications for minimum qualifications.

As a reminder, all applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as written on the job posting in order to move forward in the hiring process.

Good News to Start the New Year: Yvette Mozie-Ross

Dear UMBC Campus Community,

Happy New Year!

I am delighted to share good news about Dr. Yvette Mozie-Ross ’88, vice provost for enrollment management and planning.

When I began at UMBC more than three years ago, we intentionally staffed the president’s office with a small, strategic team of three members. As the university continues to grow, and as we look ahead to the next phase of UMBC’s future, the scope and complexity of our work have expanded significantly. This includes deepening existing and new partnerships that benefit the institution; increasing UMBC’s visibility and engagement across Baltimore, the state, and the region; and advancing key initiatives associated with our forthcoming strategic plan. At this moment, we need an exceptional leader to help drive these efforts forward.

I am confident Yvette is that leader who can hit the ground running. Effective August 1, 2026, she will join my office as senior advisor to the president for strategic initiatives. With Yvette in this new role, UMBC is getting the best of both worlds: a deeply trusted and accomplished campus leader who knows our community well and a respected ambassador with a strong record of building meaningful relationships across the region and state. Yvette has also been a consistent champion of UMBC’s students, mission, and values.

While this move takes a highly respected leader out of Provost and Senior Vice President Manfred van Dulmen’s leadership team, he agrees that it is the right opportunity at the right time for the university. Provost van Dulmen will share additional information later this month regarding the search process to fill the vice provost for enrollment management and planning position.

Until August, Yvette will continue to lead enrollment management and planning, ensuring a smooth transition for her team.

Please join me in congratulating Yvette on her new role, and thanking her for her continued leadership and service to UMBC.

Sincerely,

President Valerie Sheares Ashby

Graduate Student Support Group

<Tagline>Grad students have unique experiences that RIH can support.</Tagline>

Pursuing a graduate degree or Ph.D. is an incredible milestone in a person's academic career. Yet, maintaining wellness within graduate programs can often be challenging. The Graduate Student Support Group is a space for students to connect, share, and grow alongside others. This group will serve as a space to celebrate your strengths, resilience, and creativity while exploring strategies to thrive both academically and personally. Together, we'll focus on finding a balance between school and personal life, navigating relationships with advisors and peers, and managing stress and academic pressure, all while staying grounded in your values and career goals. This is ultimately a space to support one another, feel empowered, and find strength in community.

This group meets virtually on Tuesdays from 3 - 4:30 p.m. beginning February 17.

Due to licensure laws, all students must be located in the state of Maryland during the group to participate.

The first step to joining any group is to complete an Initial Consultation appointment. Please call us at 410-455-2542 or visit the RetrieverCare portal to schedule.

For general group questions, or if you need accommodations for a disability, please send a secure message to CC Front Desk via the patient portal at least one week prior to the start of group and RIH will arrange for services.

This event is open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.
