You are almost there! As we head into finals week, we want you to know that UMBC is here to support both your academic success and your well-being. This can be a stressful time of year, and it is more than okay to ask for help.
If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, we encourage you to utilize the many health and wellness resources available to support your well-being. If you are concerned about someone else, don't know where to begin, or are in need of food or other basic need support, Retriever Care and Retriever Essential Needs and Connections are available to help. (Retriever Essentials has updated hours for finals week and winter break.) If you just need a break, drop by the Retriever Activities Center.
Finals Week Support and Events
For support during Study Day, we encourage you to drop into StudyCon at the library to relax and refuel. You can also swing by Donut Stress just outside of the library between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Additionally, if you need research help, the Library's Research Help Desk will be open extended hours December 8 through 16.
Below you will find the final exam schedule, how to view your grades, and official transcript information for fall 2025 graduates.

General final exam schedule
- Please confirm dates and times with your instructor.
- If the university is closed for any reason (e.g., inclement weather), final exams move to the next available weekday. The first available weekday after finals is Friday, December 19.
Viewing Your Grades
Instructors submit grades Wednesday, December 10, through Friday, January 2.
- View your fall semester grades as they are posted on your myUMBC account.
- Transcripts will not reflect updated end-of-term summaries (i.e., updated GPA, repeated courses, academic standing, semester honors, etc.) until Thursday, January 8.

Applicants for fall 2025 graduation
- Eligible undergraduate students will see their degrees on their official transcripts starting January 14.

Your Next Big Opportunity Starts Here! Applications are Open for UMBC's Spring 2026 ELL Cohort!

We are excited to invite applications for the Spring 2026 Student Cohort of the Entrepreneurial Learning Lab (ELL)—a unique, hands-on innovation experience that gives students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills, gain internship credit, and work directly with UMBC faculty research to evaluate the potential commercial viability or social impact of their research or technology.
The ELL is a semester-long, cohort-based program where students learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and innovation, then apply these skills by evaluating the commercialization or social-impact potential of faculty-led research projects. This experience is ideal for students interested in product development, consulting, research, design, entrepreneurship, or innovation in any field.
Students who complete the program will earn internship credit and a $250 stipend. There will also be an additional paid opportunity (up to $1,000) upon completion of the program, to work on a summer project related to the research development.
Offered in partnership with the Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (ABCEI) and the Engineering and Computing Education Program (ECEP), ELL helps students build real-world skills that employers and graduate programs highly value.
What You'll Gain
-Throughout the semester, students participate in highly interactive workshops covering eight essential entrepreneurial competencies: Opportunity recognition, Customer discovery, Market analysis, Problem/solution fit, Product/market fit, Demand validation, Value delivery, Pitching/storytelling
By the end of the program, students will:
-Work as part of a team to evaluate UMBC research for commercialization or community impact
-Create and deliver a professional pitch deck
-Build résumé-ready project experience
-Strengthen communication, problem-solving, and innovation skills
Eligibility
-Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors
-Students committed to attending all workshops and completing project work
-Students seeking hands-on innovation experience or internship credit
-No prior entrepreneurship experience is required.
Important Notes
-This is an in-person program. Attendance at all workshops is required to receive internship credit.
-Application Deadline: Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11:59 PM
-Applicants will be notified at the beginning of January.

Blackboard to Launch New FAQs in mid-December
DoIT to review UMBC-related Bb FAQs as a result
Blackboard is rolling out a significant upgrade to its documentation experience this month, and UMBC users will begin seeing the first changes on December 10. Blackboard's new help site features a more modern interface, clearer navigation, and role-based pathways designed to make it easier for instructors, students, and system administrators to find the information they need.
According to Blackboard, all existing help links will automatically redirect to equivalent content on the new site, reducing the likelihood of broken links or missing pages.

Throughout December, Blackboard will continue refining its documentation based on preview feedback from institutions across the globe. Because this transition represents a substantial shift in the structure and organization of Blackboard's support resources, UMBC's Instructional Technology team will begin reviewing and updating our Blackboard FAQs in January. This effort will ensure that all references to vendor documentation are accurate and that our campus-specific Blackboard documentation aligns with Blackboard's own new help environment.

First Place at Chesapeake Regionals
Ethics Bowl goes undefeated at regional tournament
On Saturday, the Ethics Bowl team competed against 15 other teams and came out on top, going undefeated and taking first place! After a semester of hard work, they have qualified for the national tournament to take place in St. Louis in the spring!

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to our community? Join Retriever Essentials! We're a student-staff-faculty partnership dedicated to supporting food access on campus — and right now we need volunteers to help make a difference.
Why It Matters

Retriever Essentials provides free groceries, toiletries, baby supplies, and meal swipes to any UMBC community member who needs them.

Food insecurity among college students is real. Having access to nutritious meals and essentials supports students' physical and mental health, and helps ensure they can focus on their studies.
What You Can Do

Volunteer at the "Essential Space" free-store, help with food distribution, or support events like our Free Farmers' Market.

Help spread the word, donate items if you can, or contribute by supporting meal-swipe sharing.

UMBC Wins Chesapeake Regional Ethics Bowl
This past weekend, 16 teams participated in the Chesapeake Regional Ethics Bowl, hosted by UMBC's Center for Ethics and Values. UMBC came in 1st place, defeating Washington and Lee in the
finals. The third place team was St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the
fourth place team was Salisbury University. The top three teams – UMBC,
Washington and Lee, and St. Mary's – will be competing at the National
Ethics Bowl Tournament taking place in St. Louis, MO in March 2026. Congratulations to the team, consisting of Lauren Rivarde, Tafat Boudif, Daniel Saenz, and Aziza Mattaka (with Rebecca Mekasha as an alternate), and to their coach, Greg Ealick, as well as Stephanie Farrone, an Ethics Bowl alum who helped organize the event. You can see from the list below that this was quite an accomplishment!
