Welcome to Day 3 of our Spring 2026 Rush Week for Phi Class! This is a reminder that tonight is our Meet The Fraternity event, which will be in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building Room 118, from 8PM to 10PM. 
Attending this event will satisfy 1 of 2 rush week requirements. That means that you do not need to attend tomorrow's event; Philanthropy Night. However, you still must attend Friday's Physicians of Integrity Night to remain eligible. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend tonight's event, you can attend tomorrow and Friday's event and still remain eligible for membership consideration.

UMBC CSEE professor Mehdi Kiani and his colleagues and students are developing personalized and precise treatments to improve patients' quality of life using AI, wearable tech, and other innovations. They recently teamed up with colleagues at New York Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania State University to develop a system that combines state-of-the-art, millimeter-sized medical implants, computational models, and machine learning to better monitor and treat stomach disorders. 

The NIH-funded "CyberGut" project will use physics-informed neural networks that combine data-driven learning with fundamental physical laws. "When enhanced with human-like learning strategies, such as self-learning and adaptive optimization, these networks can evolve into significantly more powerful analytical tools," Penn State collaborator Farnaz Tehranchi says.

Come celebrate URCAD's 30th anniversary on April 22, 2026! 

The event will be moving to a bigger space in the RAC… how do you see your work being presented there? 

Posters, oral talks, films, exhibits, and performances are welcome. URCAD is open to all majors and group projects are accepted. You can present your capstone, Honors thesis, REU research, or you can be unaffiliated with a scholars program. 

Applications to present mentored research or creative worker open and will be due by February 16th and require a 200-word abstract and mentor approval. See you at the RAC as we showcase UMBC student research and art and throwback to the 90s!

Abstract writing workshop will be held on Jan. 7 (online).

Have you been seeing more announcements or emails related to AI tools or usage on campus?Do you have questions regarding the recent guidelines that were shared on the use ofartificial intelligence (AI) tools in the classroom? Would you like your voice heard, or would appreciate having student perspectives brought to the forefront of these conversations relating to AIpolicy and guidelines? 

The AOK Library would like to hear from you! If you would like to come together in a safe space to discuss AI use on campus, please stop by room 259 in the Library for two student only, student focused, in-person listening sessions happening Wednesdays (please see dates and times below and in our events page). Faculty will not be present, and conversations that occur within the space will remain anonymous to protect students' identities. All majors are welcome! 

There will be free pizza and drinks, and participants will be offered the chance to grab free swag, in addition to bonus library privileges!
