Interested in forming a study group for your STEM classes but not sure how to ask strangers? We've got you covered!

Next week in The Learning Collaboratory – TLC (UC115) from 1-4PM, we'll be holding Study Group Socials. Come in any time we're open (schedule posted below) and meet others in your class, grab a snack, and sign up for a study group!

We're hoping lots of you come around the same time (hint: after your class), but no matter what time of day you come, we'll make sure you get a chance to sign up. You'll get a form to fill out where you can let us know when you're available to study on campus and we'll take care of the group formation for you! 

You can, of course, study anywhere, but we will specifically be helping you form groups to study in TLC during open study hall hours. You'll always have access to whiteboards, calculators, and, most importantly, SNACKS! There will be practice materials for you during test weeks, suggestions for what to cover that week, and more. **These will be unmonitored sessions and tutoring/instructions will not be provided. If you are looking for that support – and we hope you are – please follow this link to the tutoring and SI PASS support that our colleagues in the Academic Success Center (ASC) provide.**

If possible, please come by on the day listed for your STEM subject, but you can stop by to fill out the form any time. If there are enough people interested in group study, we'll put you together!

UMBC’s Department of English has added a new course, ENGL 211 Writing with AI. The course is being taught for the first time this Fall by Dr. Tanya Olsen, a Senior Lecturer and the Director of the Department's Writing and Rhetoric Division. Here is the description from UMBC's course catalog.

What if AI could help you solve problems, generate ideas, or tackle challenges simply by asking the right questions? This course introduces prompt writing - the art of crafting clear, purposeful inputs to guide AI tools, which is rooted in rhetorical skills. Rather than replacing human thinking, AI can enhance the creativity and analysis you bring to any writing situation. Students will master a range of prompt writing techniques while critically engaging with AI to design prompts for personal, academic, and professional purposes.
