Meet Your Student Callers: Callan, Class of 2016

Once a month, we’ll profile one of the amazing Phonathon students working in UMBC’s call center. This week, say hello to student caller Callan, class of 2016.

Callan is from Mount Airy, MD, and is working toward her degree in media and communications. We sat down with Callan to get to know her a little better and here’s what we learned:

Q: Why did you choose to come to UMBC?

I was initially attracted to UMBC because of the size of the campus and the academic reputation.

Q: What activities do you enjoy outside of class?

I love going to concerts, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Q: What do you like best about being a student caller?

I love being able to get advice from alumni. It’s nice being able to talk to young alumni because I can relate to them, but it’s also really interesting to talk to alumni who graduated years ago because they have so many years of experience. Not only that, but I like hearing about how much UMBC has changed.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?

As of now I think I would like to be an event planner, but I am hoping to participate in a few more internships before I graduate to explore other possibilities.

Q: What do you enjoy most about UMBC?

I love the class sizes and the dedication of professors. I have had nothing but positive experiences in my classes, especially those for my major. I like how much attention professors are willing and able to give to me due to the small class sizes. It’s also great to feel like the majority of my classmates are just as interested and excited to be here as I am.

At just 20 years old, Christina’s years in music feel like a whirlwind. Honesty and heart seep through the lyrics of her catchy pop-country style. She also enjoys performing covers by a wide variety of artists. From hosting a monthly open mic, to placing in various local competitions, performing regularly around the area, and more, Christina can’t wait to see where music takes her next. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in May of 2016, she plans on moving to Nashville to pursue her dream.

This article is a great resource to understand Ebola's impact in West Africa and how the disease is not the only problem; food is scarce as well. So many are in quarantine and trucks are have a hard time delivering food to all parts of the area. The sick have to resort to finding food for themselves, which puts others in danger also. However, that is their only option. Looking at third-world countries, we learn to appreciate the United States and all the precautions the government and healthcare facilities are taking to prevent spread as well as deaths due to this terrible disease.
