The event was held to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday and UMBC’s diverse voices. It took place at the end of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), and it was sponsored by the Dresher Center for the Humanities, the Office of Undergraduate Education and the English and Theatre Departments. Learn from An Experienced Archaeologist with ARCH 220 Archaeologist and UMBC Instructor Meredith Fraser is currently in the field in Egypt, and will join Summer Session II in a few weeks to lead the course “Archaeology of Ancient Egypt” (ARCH 220). Students will have the opportunity to learn first-hand from an expert who has vast knowledge of Old, Middle and New Egypt and extensive archaeological experience.  The course, which is offered for Arts & Humanities and Culture GEP credit, will explore the rise and development of Egyptian civilization through the lens of the material culture they left behind.

This course is a 4-week course starting in Session II. It is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Dr. Hrabowski emphasized the importance of innovation to the success of colleges and universities in meeting student needs, and discussed the need to welcome nontraditional students. He also encouraged optimism in higher education, saying, “My colleagues and I at UMBC are determined to remain young as an institution and as people” by always focusing on new opportunities to grow.
