A: There are so many different people in the world. Some of them are going to disagree with you, not understand you, or even hate you for being who you are. That is just the way of the world. On the other hand, some are going to support your efforts, reach out to you, and love you for the person you choose to be. The important thing to remember is this: don't worry about the first group, and cherish the second.

A: One of my favorite stories to tell is how I got into (seb). On the night before my very first day of classes at UMBC, I decided to go to Big Crazy Fun Night. Being the proactive individual that I am, I ended up getting there about a half hour early. While I was sitting on Main Street, waiting for the fun to begin, I noticed a guy tying balloons to the rails. Having nothing better to do, I went over and offered to help. Little did I know that the guy was none other than Jason Palumbo, a member of the (seb) board. Thirty minutes later, I was running one of the games at Big Crazy Fun Night, and within a few weeks I was a member of (seb). The moral of the story? People do notice when you take the initiative, so do yourself a favor and step up to the plate.

Ant Ozok, Information Systems, on The Kojo Nnamdi Show

Technological advancements such as direct deposit, ATMs and cell phone apps have changed the way people bank. A recent news report found that 50% of the population had not visited a bank branch in the last month. Ant Ozok, associate professor of information systems, visited WAMU’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show to discuss technological innovations that have transformed personal banking.
