Most 2026 AP Scores were released by the College Board this week. Congratulations to those students that did well on their AP exams!

If your scores will impact your Fall 2026 schedule (you are enrolled in a course you have credit for or your math credit will make you eligible for more major courses) you should make changes to your schedule soon as possible. 

Even if you requested scores be sent to UMBC it still may take up to a few weeks for those scores to be received, processed, and evaluated. If you did not request the scores be sent to UMBC please make that request ASAP. Until the course equivalency is listed in your course history you won't be able to use it as a prerequisite to make schedule changes on your own. You can check to see if the course has been fully evaluated by going to myUMBC - Profile- Grades- Course History. 

Advisors may be able to help you make schedule adjustments as long as you have proof of your scores. It is the student's responsibility to make schedule adjustments based on AP scores. 

First, you should consult our AP transfer Policies to confirm that you will be receiving credit for your score.

Next, you will need to use the schedule planner or course search to put together a new schedule. All overrides are issued on specific sections so you will need to know exactly which section(s) you want to register for each new course. COEIT advisors can help with this process. You can schedule an appointment with any advisor here.

Once you have the section information you will need to reach out to the appropriate department to receive permission. 

All communication must include your name, ID, specific section information, a screenshot of the required AP score, and if you are sending an email it must come from your UMBC email account.

Howard County Law Days of Summer 2026

This event is open to all high school, college, and post-college students interested in law and law-related professions.

Remaining Dates: July 18 and July 28

Time: 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM 

Location: Howard County Circuit Courthouse, Ellicott City, MD

• Spend the day at the courthouse and have networking opportunities with legal professionals from organizations such as the Howard County State's Attorney's Office and the Office of the Public Defender. 
• You can attend one or both days to have the opportunity to watch court cases and meet and learn from judges, lawyers, and other court partners.
• The event is free, with lunch provided.
• Note: You do not have to be from the Howard County area to attend.

AI is poised to reshape nearly every sector of the economy in the coming years and UMBC is adapting its curricular offerings in a variety of ways. One specific change: The university is launching a new master’s degree program to prepare students to lead the AI transformation. The new M.S. in AI program, designed for students with some computing background, offers a focused, rigorous pathway into AI research, development, and deployment.

“Within the state of Maryland and our region, there are a number of national labs and industries that are really focused on AI. This program is responding to workforce demands and really preparing students for the world of AI,” says Dmitri Perkins, a professor and director of graduate programs in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMBC.

The first cohort of students will start classes this coming fall. The new program joins these existing UMBC AI degrees: B.S. in computer science with a specialized track in AI/machine learning and M.S. in information systems with a specialized track in AI.

Two UMBC CSEE faculty members received Strategic Awards for Research Transitions (START) awards of $25,000 for the 2026-27 academic year. 

• Associate Professor Roberto Yus received the award to support his project  "Optimizing AI Workflows for Reliable, Low-Cost Agentic Systems."
• Assistant Professor Dong Li received the award to support his project "Securing Smartphones Against Voice Scams with Real-Time Vocal-Acoustic Watermarking."

Assistant Professor Yiwen Hu received an $8,000 Summer Research Faculty Fellowship (SURFF) award to support her research on "Securing Lost/Stolen Device Revocation Systems in 5G/6G Networks via Cross-Domain Evidence Attestation".

Dear UMBC Community,

A helicopter is scheduled to be on campus this Saturday, July 11, between approximately 6 and 10 a.m., weather permitting, to move equipment onto the Biological Sciences Building. The work is part of a facilities project to replace rooftop mechanical equipment.

During this time, the Library, The Commons, the Meyerhoff Chemistry Building, and the Biological Sciences Building will be closed, and access to other nearby areas may be restricted. Temporary barriers and on-site personnel will help maintain the safety perimeter. The project team has coordinated with UMBC Police, Environmental Safety and Health, and other campus partners to ensure the operation is conducted safely.

Please stay clear of restricted areas and follow posted signs and instructions from campus personnel. Visit the Facilities Management group for more details.

If weather prevents the work from taking place on Saturday, the lift is expected to move to Sunday, July 12, during the same approximate timeframe of 6 to 10 a.m. The same building closures and access restrictions would apply.
