Selection Criteria
The scholarship recipient will be recognized based upon her/his commitment to improving the lives of at-risk urban youth through academic studies and community service activities.

Candidate should be a full-time, degree-seeking student at UMBC, enrolled in her/his sophomore year with a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Candidate will be required to submit a resume and an unofficial transcript.

Candidate should submit a 500-word essay explaining actions that she/he has participated in that have contributed to improving the lives of Baltimore City youth.

The acid-bath stem cell technique mentioned last week is getting some strong skepticism. Researchers have been having difficulty reproducing the original results from Haruko Obokato, Charles Vacanti, and their colleagues. Vacanti made a statement that he would be glad to make a detailed protocol available to the public, so we may want to keep a close but discerning eye on any upcoming information on STAP cells.
