Pitched and researched story ideas for radio segments, performed background interviews, and booked guests.

Wrote scripts and web copy, recorded interviews, edited audio for radio play. Uploaded segment and podcast audio to the web.

Promoted programs through social media sites, like Twitter and Facebook.

What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization/company?

Seeing my own ideas for radio segments develop into pieces that actually get on the air.

What have you gained from your experience that you could not have gained from another opportunity?

I got the chance to work at a radio station I love to listen to and on a favorite program of mine. If this were paid, it would be my dream job!

What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?

In addition to having an excellent cover letter and resume, be prepared with at least three strong story pitches to offer during the interview and then try to have as many more story ideas up your sleeve for use during the internship.

How do you see your experience as meaningful? This might involve skills you’ve gained, information you’ve learned, mentors you’ve connected with, or projects you’ve completed.

I've worked very closely with all the producers at "Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast". During that time I have worked on all aspects of radio production which has helped confirm my desire to get into public media production as a career.

Please provide a short quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / the internship placement process.

I really wanted this particular internship; the first time I applied for it I didn't get it, but I went back and got it the next time it came up. Perseverance really paid off.

Our thoughts are with the faculty, staff, students and affiliated personnel impacted by the breach, particularly the estimated 1,200 from UMBC at the Universities at Shady Grove and any of our faculty, staff and students who may have studied or worked at College Park during the time period affected. Specifically, our colleagues at UMCP have shared that the database breached contained 309,079 records, including all faculty, staff, students and affiliated personnel from the College Park and Shady Grove campuses who were issued a university ID anytime between 1998 and the present. If you did not receive an ID card from UMCP during that time period, you are likely not impacted. We want to thank our colleagues at College Park who are working hard to investigate and address this issue with transparency and care for the needs of community members who have been impacted. If you think you might be one of those affected, we encourage you to visit this UMCP website for more detailed information and to learn how you can register for a free year of credit protection. UMCP is working with a company named Experian to reach out and officially contact everyone impacted by this breach. That work is underway, but will take some time to complete.
