Suzanne Rosenberg Organizes & Speaks Past, Present and Upcoming Talks! Suzanne Rosenberg is currently an organizer for the International Keystone Conference, "Immune Evolution in Cancer" being held in Whistler Canada, March 10-14, 2014 and will give a plenary talk entitled: "Inflammation and Alarmins as Drivers of Immune-Suppressive Myeloid Cells and Tumor Progression".

She has been invited to give a keynote talk entitled:  "Inflammation, immune suppression and cancer:  It's the RAGE", at the up-coming 2014 Annual meeting of the Translational Research Cancer Centers Consortium in Seven Springs, PA Feb. 19-21, 2014. 

Earlier this month, she gave an invited seminar at the The NIH, Feb 5, 2014 entitled:  "Inflammation-induced immune suppression in cancer:  "It's the RAGE".

Last month, Sue gave a plenary talk entitled: "Inflammation, alarmins, and immune suppression - It's the RAGE",  at The Midwinter Conference of Immunologists held in Asilomar, CA , Jan 23 - 27, 2014

Most scientist accept the RNA world hypothesis, which states that RNA was the first biological molecule due to its ability to copy itself and pass along genetic traits. However, Nicholas Hud, a chemist at the Georgia Institute of Technology, wasn’t convinced.

A recent article in WIRED, courtesy of Quanta Magazine, discusses Hud’s experiment with the building blocks of RNA. The experiment made a breakthrough with the discovery of a chemical recipe that points to the existence of a molecule that might pre-date RNA.

Quanta interviewed Stephen Freeland, director of UMBC’s interdiscipinary studies program, for the article. “In my opinion, nothing like this has been seen before,” Dr. Freeland said, before going on to say that the experiment leads to conceptual progress, even if it did not use the exact components of the unknown molecule.
