It’s not every day that job seekers have employers coming to them. But for UMBC students, that day is quickly approaching. October 9th is this year’s fall Career Fair—the largest of UMBC’s annual recruiting events. 100 employers, representing corporate America, non-profits, and government agencies are expected, including: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, T. Rowe Price, National Security Agency, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Morgan Stanley, AAI Corporation, Federal Aviation Administration and many more. Whether for yourself or for your student, you’ll want to sneak a peek at the list of attending employersHERE and learn all you can about how to make the most of the upcoming fair.
And opportunities don’t end with the Career Fair. Employers such as General Electric, Microsoft Corporation, DuPont, Stanley Black & Decker, PNC Bank, Target, and Harris Corporation will be knocking on UMBC’s door this fall via on-campus interviews, Corporate Visibility Days, employer information sessions and our October 22nd Diversity Recruitment Event. Over the summer, UMBC Bookstore relocated and expanded its technology department complete with a new name: True Bits Tech Ctr. The name was chosen from over 280 entries submitted through a Facebook contest (fb.com/umbcbookstore). In addition to remaining an Authorized Apple Campus Store, True Bits has expanded the selection of techcessories, and peripherals. Chromebook, the ultraportable, sleek laptop from Google is now available starting at just $259.99. As always, parents and family members can enjoy peace of mind that our Service/Repair Center and on campus Technical Support Desk are available to assist should problems arise.

Celebrate World Car Free Day with OCSS!
Every year on or around September 22nd people around the world get out of their cars and onto the streets to celebrate World Car Free Day which is aimed at showcasing what the world would look like without private vehicles.
For one day, leave your car at home and try riding your bike, walking, or taking public transportation.

Established in 1996, JOTF is an independent network of service providers, employers, and community members concerned about low-wage, low-skill employment, the insufficient numbers of jobs that pay family-supporting wages, and the impact of these issues on the economic development and revitalization of the Baltimore region. In 2000 JOTF incorporated at a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with full-time staff.
Our first major achievement was the publication in May 1999 of Baltimore Area
Jobs and Low-Skill Job Seekers: Assessing the Gaps. This report describes and
quantifies the region's workforce and total job market, and identifies
strengths, opportunities, and problems. The problems include large
concentrations of unemployed and unskilled residents; lack of enough jobs that
offer adequate income, benefits, and career opportunities for these residents;
lack of accessible public transportation to major job centers located
throughout the region; and a scarcity of qualified workers for higher skill
jobs.
We seek to integrate workforce development with economic and community
development, and to respond to the workforce needs of both employers and job
seekers. We bring together various components of the workforce system -
employers, workers, job seekers, educators, trainers, service providers, public
administrators, and policymakers - to identify what works, what needs to be
changed, and how to improve outcomes.
