 Maryland will elect a new statewide officers, state legislators and members of Congress in 2014. Take a few minutes to register to vote in the 2014 national election, here or in your home state, using these tools.

 Maryland Voter Registration Application (download a paper form, or use the Maryland Online Voter Registration system). If you're already registered but have moved since the last election, you can use the Maryland Voter Registration Application to change your address. The deadline to register before the 2014 primary election is: June 3, 2014.

If you're a student from out of state wondering whether you can register to vote in Maryland, here's some information for you.

National Voter Registration Form (if your state of residence is not Maryland, use this form. Special rules apply for residents of New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wyoming and U.S. territories; be sure to check your state election web sites, using the link below).

Science Reference Center provides access to a multitude of full-text, science-oriented content.The database can be used for preliminary research in a variety of areas, it contains full text for hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, scientific journals and specially written essays, and biographical material on influential individuals. The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 15 participating DOE laboratories. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission.

The SULI program is sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science’s, Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in collaboration with the DOE laboratories.

Applications for the SULI program are solicited annually for three separate internship terms. Internship appointments are 10 weeks in duration for the Summer Term (May through August) or 16 weeks in duration for the Fall (August through December) and Spring (January through May) Terms. Each DOE laboratory offers different research opportunities; not all DOE laboratories offer internships during the Fall and Spring Terms.

Users on campus can sometimes hold multiple roles at UMBC (e.g. a staff member taking graduate classes part time). Content and topics on myUMBC are tailored to you based on your role, so there will be times when you may need to switch your role in order to see certain content. The following instructions will allow you to change your role.

Tell Me

  1. Log into myUMBC.
  2. Mouse over your name in the top right corner.
  3. Select Role from the drop down menu.

  4. From the Role page, you can set your Active and Default roles.

    Your Active role is your current role in myUMBC. Your Default role is the role you'll have whenever you first log into myUMBC.

  5. Choose the appropriate audience from the drop down menu of the role you wish to change and click the Set button to the right.

Behavioral Analysis - Next generation Threat Detection

Original intrusion detection solutions were based on blacklists and threat signatures that required extensive user customization and maintenance. Threat detection vendors today are, thankfully, moving to the far more proactive technologies associated with behavior analysis: an evolution to prevent malevolent guests from getting onto your networks and into your databases.

Malware, says Rob Rachwald, is weird. It has no manners. It's always sniffing around on the network. Before you know it, it's slipping off to connect back to an attacker, establishing a connection to your now-violated network. "That's not normal network behavior," Rachwald, senior director of research at FireEye, explained to SearchNetworking's Sally Johnson.

Fifteen years on, organizations still struggle with the SQL injection threat

There’s a sinking feeling you get when you realize your databases have been breached, sensitive records compromised, and malware has infected your servers to push your sensitive data out over the Internet completely undetected. The situation’s made worse when it’s revealed that the breach has actually been ongoing for months. Oh, and it also turns out there are no logs of the SQL exchanges between the web applications and the databases that could provide the forensics. And, to top it off it’s only Monday . . .
