Coastal Carolina University is excited to host the 81st meeting of the Southeastern Conference on Linguistics (SECOL). SECOL 81 will be held March 27-29, 2014 at the Embassy Suites Resort in sunny North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The
Southeastern Conference on Linguistics invites submissions for papers
for the 81st meeting. Twenty-minute papers and panels of 100 minutes
relating to the conference theme of Atlantic Englishes are especially
requested. Papers in all areas of language and linguistics are welcome,
including papers and panels on the teaching of linguistics.
Abstract should not exceed 500 words, excluding title and references. There may be an additional page for references and examples. Authors may submit up to two abstracts, one individual and one joint.
Abstracts must be submitted electronically (.pdf or Word document) through EasyAbstracts starting on September 15, 2013. All submissions must be received by 11:49pm (EST) of December 31, 2013.
Abstracts will be subjected to blind review, so author names should not appear anywhere on abstracts. Authors' contact information will be collected through the EasyAbstracts system.

SECOL is the oldest regional linguistic association in the US, and is dedicated to the advancement of the study of language in all its aspects. The annual spring conference provides a venue for SECOL members to read and discuss scholarly papers. Use a high quality Category 5e or better Ethernet cable that is free of kinks, knicks or cuts that may damage the cable or impede its signal quality.
Ethernet cables may be purchased at the UMBC Bookstore, or from any number of retail or big box stores in the area or online.

Switches are not supported on the ResNet system. If more ports are needed, a wired router must be used.

You may use a wired router in your room, but because they will cause interference with existing UMBC provided services, wireless routers are expressly prohibited in the dorms and apartments (with the exception of Walker Avenue and Westhills Apartments, where we do not currently have production wireless).
When using a router, the router itself must also be registered with the ResNet system. This may be done the same way a regular computer is registered. Keep in mind that any and all traffic going through that router is the responsibility of the user who registered it, even if a second user connects to it.

Go to http://resnet.umbc.edu . In the top left corner, there should be a Deregister link if your computer is currently registered. This is generally not necessary unless you know that your computer will be used by someone else, or if you are transferring ownership of your computer.

You may have your DNS servers statically set.
Unfortunately, to register to the ResNet system, you must set your computer to dynamically assign not only your IP address, but your domain name server (DNS) addresses as well. By default, when DHCP is chosen as the preferred option, the DNS servers are received as well - that is unless someone manually sets them. After the computer has been registered, there are no restrictions on which server you use.

Sure. You may register as many devices as you want, but keep in mind you are responsible for each and every one.
If you register a friend's computer temporarily (not recommended), make sure you deregister it when you are done. You are still responsible for the traffic on any machine registered to you for as long as that machine is registered in your name.

You must register your system to ResNet before using the Internet or any network services.
Go to http://resnet.umbc.edu and click the login button. After you successfully enter your username and password, your system will be registered. You only have to register your system once per academic year, unless you manually deregister yourself.
