Biology graduate named 2013 Outstanding Alumna of the Year Nationally recognized diabetes researcher receives award Dr. Mary Loeken, a graduate of the Department of Biological sciences was chosen as the 2013 Outstanding Alumna of the Year Award in Natural and Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Loeken is an Associate Professor at the Joslin Diabetes Center of Harvard Medical School. Bb shells are available for all courses (designated as lecture, lab, or discussion) listed in the UMBC Schedule of Classes (SOC), provided that there was an instructor of recordlisted. The addition of new course sections and instructors will result in new Bb shells being automatically generated each morning. Student enrollment in Bb will continue to mirror the official registration in SA, and will update hourly. If you are an instructor, and your name is not associated with the course you are teaching in the SOC, please see your departmental scheduling coordinator to get that issue resolved. Additionally in situations where one instructor is teaching multiple sections of the same course, by default all sections will be combined into one Bb course shell. In accordance with the Blackboard Course Retention Policy, all Blackboard courses older than  Fall 2007 will be deleted. DoIT has scheduled this removal for Friday, August 23, 2013. 

Instructors are encouraged to download and keep a copy of the Grade Center for any affected courses. Instructors may also archive an entire course, and keep a local copy for their records. Be aware though that only DoIT system administrators can "restore" an archived course on the UMBC Blackboard production server.

After the WT2014 semester is completed (and the SP2014 semester is started), Winter courses will be migrated to the new production Bb server, typically by the end of Spring Break.

Currently, we are running version 9.1.9 and plan to upgrade to version 9.1.13 (depending on what version is available in October when the Winter server is built). In addition to staying current with Bb's latest release, the latest version of Bb will give us access to several new features that include the following:



Before the upgrade, anyone can see how these features look and function now by trying out a demo instance on the free coursesites.blackboard.com:



After the upgrade, DoIT will provide face-to-face and online "Bb Drop In" sessions. We also are very willing to support cohort-based training for departments that can assure a minimum of four (4) faculty and/or staff will be present (dates & times TBD). To request cohort training, submit an "online learning" request via rt.umbc.edu. Please use “Bb Cohort Training Request” in the subject line.
