  10/1/12 Dr. Dawn Biehler, Assistant Professor in Geography and Environmental Systems, is a co-PI on a NSF  Coupled Natural and Human Systems grant entitled "Urban Disamenities and Pests: Coupled Dynamics of Urban Mosquito Ecology and Human Systems Across Socioeconomically Diverse Communities".   8/23/12  Dr. Chris Hennigan has joined the Department of Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering as an Assistant Professor.  He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Georgia Tech and recently completed a post-doctoral position at Carnegie Mellon in the Center for Atmospheric Particle Studies. Google kills its Reader, beloved by many (but not enough).

Across the Internet, journalists and news junkies are letting out a sustained cry: “Why, Google, why?” The company announced late Wednesday that it would be killing off Google Reader, its RSS platform. I use Google Reader daily. So do yet more eminent journalists. But the Great Googlers have determined that Reader’s user base is too small for them to justify the upkeep, and who are we to blame them?’

Annapolis, MD – February 14, 2013 – The Chesapeake Regional Tech Council (CRTC) today announced the finalists for the upcoming 8th annual TechAwards 2013: Geek is the New Chic, honoring the region's rising tech companies, outstanding innovators and all-around top "geeks." For the four awards categories the CRTC received more than 40 submissions from a variety of accomplished technology businesses and individuals throughout the Annapolis-Washington-Baltimore region. A twelve-member selection committee examined the nominations and voted on the top contenders. Winners will be announced at the TechAwards event on the evening of March 14, 2013 at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport Hotel.

Northrop Grumman, University of Maryland, Baltimore County Expand Cync Program to Drive Innovation in Cyber Technology

BALTIMORE – March 15, 2013 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Research Park Corporation (bwtech@UMBC) have expanded the Cync program, a cybersecurity technology incubator initiative, to include three additional companies, among them the program's first international cyber provider. iWebGate of Perth, Australia, joins DB Networks of San Diego and Light Point Security of Baltimore as the latest companies to participate in Cync.
