Box offers several options for limiting the access to the file you wish to share.
To access the “Access” options:
- Click Share next to the file you wish to share.
- Click Access.

Open: Anyone with the link can access the file without needing to log into a Box account. You can also set a password or expiration for the link, as well as restrict download and/or preview access for link viewers.

@UMBC: Only users with a UMBC Box account with the link and any collaborators in the folder can access the file. You can set an expiration date and restrict download and/or preview access for link viewers.

Collaborators Only:Only users who have been invited to the folder can access the content in the folder. Note: Collaborators already have access to their content, but can easily direct one another to a specific file or folder using the shared link.
- Disable: This option removes and deletes the shared link assigned to that file or folder so it can no longer be accessed, even if someone has the old link.
After choosing the various access levels, you have the option to set multiple settings on the file.
- Choose to create a customized link for the file (in the format of https://umbc.box.com/<yourtexthere>)
- Set a Password on the file
- Set an expiration date for when the link will no longer allow users to access the shared file.
- Or restrict permissions as to whether users can preview the file within a browser, download, or both.
