The Nebraska Summer Research Program is a consortium of NSF funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and other summer research opportunities programs (SROP).

One unique feature of the Nebraska Summer Research Program is the partnership between the REU and SROP programs and the Office of Graduate Studies. Students benefit in having a community of scholars in which to learn and to share research with.

This intensive summer research experience provides mentoring and research experiences while allowing scholars to preview graduate school life. Students with a strong interest in graduate programs are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those from populations traditionally underrepresented in graduate education.

Program Dates: May 20 – July 26, 2013

The University of Pittsburgh Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study (MIDAS) National Center of Excellence is pleased to announce a summer research opportunity for undergraduate students in the field of computational modeling and simulation of infectious diseases. Through this ten-week Summer Research Program, participants will gain an appreciation of major research questions being raised at the intersection of public health, biological science, and computer technology. Participants selected for this program will work with MIDAS Investigators, experienced graduate students and postdoctoral fellows conducting exciting interdisciplinary research projects in this dynamic field. This intensive research-based experience will prepare applicants interested in working at the interface of mathematics, computer science, engineering, statistics, epidemiology, public health and biological sciences for the rigors of scientific research and graduate education.

There are numerous research investigators, topic areas and projects ongoing within the University of Pittsburgh MIDAS National Center of Excellence. Check back soon for more information on research projects.

Matching participants with experienced MIDAS Investigators is an essential component of the Summer Research Program. The research interests, skill-sets and career goals of each participant selected for the program will be carefully reviewed and matched to a MIDAS Investigator to create a productive and stimulating environment for each participant in the MIDAS Summer Research Program.
Eligibility

The program is open to all undergraduates with an interest in the computational modeling and simulation of infectious diseases. Applications are accepted from undergraduate students who are in good academic standing and are currently enrolled in a four year college or university. Women and underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

Financial Package

    Successful applicants will be awarded a $4500 research stipend for the ten week program.
    Housing and travel provided as needed.

Application Requirements

Applications will be judged on the merits and completeness of the application. Only online applications will be accepted. Application materials should include the following:

Microsoft Software NOT Covered by "Microsoft Campus Only Agreement" for Faculty and Staff

The "Microsoft Institution Select Agreement" allows the campus to purchase any Microsoft Software that is not included in the "MS Campus Only Agreement". Examples of software that may be purchased are:

  • Sharepoint

  • Visio

  • Others

License Codes:

  • DoIT will provide codes for products that are licensed under the Microsoft Institution Select Agreement
    • Please submit a work order through the UMBC Technology Support Center to obtain the appropriate license code. Please include the exact product name for the product.
  • DoIT will NOT provide codes for products that are licensed under the Microsoft Work At Home Agreement. License Codes for Work At Home Agreement are sold with the media by the UMBC Bookstore.
