The Upward Bound Regional Math Science Center at Frostburg State University is seeking tutor/counselors for their federally-funded, six-week summer residential education program.  This program designed to encourage and motivate qualified disadvantaged high school students to pursue post-secondary education, and to develop the skills and attitudes essential for success beyond high school.

 

Students in these positions will: 

  • serve as residence hall small-group supervisors
  • act as tutors in various academic areas
  • chaperone field trips
  • conduct recreational activities
  • assist classroom instructors
  • conduct small group tutoring/study sessions
  • enforce a safe, positive and productive residence hall living environment

Tresys Technology is looking for outstanding and highly motivated interns. Full and part-time paid internships are available during the Spring 2013 semester.  Internships can be 20 or 40 hours per week, depending on your schedule and our requirements.    

Interns will participate on various projects that are Cyber Security related. Most projects are systems engineering in scope with Interns doing various parts of the Full System Development Life Cycle. Traditionally they will work at the Linux OS level using C or Python to develop complex systems.  You might be tasked with testing systems and looking at various vulnerabilities. If you like getting very technical and want to understand Cyber Security from the systems level, you will work directly with these aspects. You will work on real projects that have an impact on the business and will influence the Intelligence Community.  Casual jeans environment! You will be challenged daily on your technical skills, problem solving ability, and intelligence!

Student must be project oriented and be able to multi-task. Student should have strong skills throughout the software development lifecycle. Student must have programming knowledge and have core computer science or development skills with C, C++, or python and the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing. Linux experience is highly desired. Experience with scripting languages, graphical interface libraries, web development, and Linux system utilities also a plus, especially SELinux. 
•    College student in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, as well as graduate student.  Computer Science or Computer Engineering major is desired.

Services on the first floor of the Library will be relocated and, hopefully, not significantly disrupted, while contractors replace the carpet, beginning Thursday, January 3, and continuing through Friday, January 18, 2013. Computers will be removed from the area beginning January 2 but will continue to be available on floors 2-7 and in the RLC. Please watch for signs directing users to temporary service locations. All Library services will continue during the carpeting project.   Printing service will continue to be available in the RLC and on the 2nd and 7th floors. Scanning service will be available on the 2nd floor. The Technology Support Center will be located in room 216.

In preparation for the carpet installation, public computers on the 1st floor will be moved to the Gallery for storage beginning on Dec. 20.

The Library carpet was installed in 1995. Now 17 years old, it has survived longer than expected, especially considering the high traffic on the first floor. It will now be replaced with carpet tile of similar design and color to the carpet tile which was recently installed on the 7th floor.

The fellowship is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Berman’s fellowship is in conjunction with a yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, which has been organized by the IAH and Carolina Performing Arts.
