How do I install the Microsoft Forefront on a Windows computer on campus?

In order to install Microsoft Forefront on your UMBC Campus Office PC you will need to have administrative privileges on the PC in question. If you do not have administrative privileges please submit a support request to have DoIT staff install the software for you. If you are currently using the DoIT provided McAfee Anti-Virus, you can upgrade to Microsoft Forefront by simply running the installer. Forefront will cleanly replace the McAfee Anti-Virus during the installation as detailed below.

Tell me

  1. Download Microsoft Forefront

  2. Double click the downloaded setup file to start the installation.

  3. Click Next to continue.

  4. Read the license agreement and then click I accept to accept the MSE license agreement.

  5. Microsoft Security Essentials needs to validate your copy of Windows prior to installation. Click Validate to start the validation process

  6. Once the validation is complete, click Install to continue with the installation.

  7. Note that the option to download the latest updates and start a scan for potential threats is pre-checked. Click Finish.

  8. MSE will immediately search for and download the latest virus and spyware definitions and will commence a quick scan of the PC

  9. To upgrade MSE

    1. Once the initial update and quick scan are completed, its time to look for any upgrades available for the MSE software itself.

    2. Expand “Additional help options” and click on Upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials. If an upgrade is available, let MSE download and install it.

Duties: Writing, editing, pitching, recording, creating, crunching, captioning, surfing, shooting, feeding, porting, posting, designing, updating, networking, texting, tweeting, playing, mashing, and exploring. You'll collaborate on sophisticated communications campaigns and work on web features, press releases, newsletter articles, press conferences, media interviews, tweet ups, satellite media tours, and video news releases.  Student will create stories, features, and content for NASA's public web, video, and social media ecosystems. Students will also serve as "reporters" and will cover activities.  Excellent writing skills and personal participation in social media communities required. Experience in newsroom, web, video, still photography and multimedia environments desired.

Position is located at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.  The internship is open to both undergraduates and students working toward graduate degrees. This is a paid internship with an estimated $6k stipend.
