(info) It is crucial that you have the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime installed on your computer for optimal performance. iTunes U only accepts files for upload that are less than 500 megabytes (MB). To create smaller files, try editing down information within the file or using high-quality compressed file formats, such as AAC and H.264.

Meghan Carpenter has been selected as UMBC's nominee for Student Regent for 2013-2014. Meghan is a junior majoring in American Studies and Political Science. She is the Director of Community and Governmental Affairs for UMBC's Student Government Association, and represents UMBC students on the University System of Maryland Student Council, the Maryland Higher Education Commission's Student Advisory Council, and UMBC's Neighbor Relations Committee.  Meghan also works as a research assistant for Professor Carolyn Forestiere, and as an office assistant for UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski.  Meghan also blogs for USDemocrazy.net, and has authored two posts for the UMBC BreakingGround web site.

The Student Regent is the sole student member of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, which governs a state public higher education system that includes the UMBC, the University of Maryland College Park, Towson University and 9 other institutions, along with two regional higher education centers. As UMBC's nominee for the position for 2013-2014, Meghan will be interviewed next weekend by the University System of Maryland Student Council, which will forward the names of three finalists for consideration by Governor O'Malley.

The past 10 UMBC nominees all have been selected as finalists, and three have been appointed Student Regent: Phil Shockley (2003-2004), Josh Michael (2008-2009) and current UMBC senior Collin Wojciechowski (2011-2012).

Tell Me

  1. Click the tab for the group where the file currently exists
  2. Click the Replace icon for the file you want to replace
  3. Click Choose File, and then select the new file
    iTunes U displays a status indicator and begins uploading the file you selected.
    To cancel the upload, click the Cancel icon.
    Replacing a file rather than deleting and uploading a new file is important if you want to save previously defined bookmarks and iTunes U popularity index entries associated with a file.

Bb course shells for both SP2013 and WT2013 were created on December, 1, 2012.  The course shells for SP2013 are located on the Bb production server at http://blackboard.umbc.edu.  As previously announced WT2013 courses will be run on a separate server at http://bb-winter.umbc.edu.  The Bb production server will be taken offline from January 4 - 14, 2013 while it is being upgraded.  All courses and organizations on the Bb production server will be unavailable during that time.  If you require any past Bb content for your WT2013 courses please make sure to export it prior to midnight January 3, 2013.

Enrollments for both SP2013 and WT2013 courses will continue to be updated daily. Bb shells are available for all courses (designated as lecture, lab, field or discussion) listed in the UMBC Schedule of Classes (SOC), provided that there is an instructor of record listed. The addition of new course sections and instructors will result in new Bb shells being automatically generated each morning. Student enrollment in Bb will continue to mirror the official registration in SA, and will update hourly.

If you are an instructor, and your name is not associated with the course you are teaching in the SOC, please see your departmental scheduling coordinator to get that issue resolved. Once you are listed in the SOC, your Bb course shell will be created automatically.

Additionally in situations where one instructor is teaching multiple sections of the same course, by default all sections will be combined into one Bb course shell. If you want to have separate shells for different sections, or if you need a shell for for a research or independent study course, please submit a new course request or submit an RT ticket with your request.

“Hugging Laxmi to his chest, Mr. Garg climbed the ladder propped against the wall
of his house. The Devi weighed more than he’d expected,” begins a short story by Manil Suri, professor of mathematics, in the Washington Post Magazine.

“The Silver Spring Laxmi” is the tale of a homeowner who erects a Devi display to rival his neighbor’s Christmas decorations in an act of cultural rebellion. “Mr. Garg intended his Laxmi to give Christmas a run for its money, to rival the multitude of displays sure to invade the neighborhood in the coming weeks,” writes Suri. The story was published in the holiday fiction issue of the magazine, which is on newstands on Sunday, November 18.

Suri’s latest novel, The City of Devi, will be released in February.
