"My name is Marlene Moreno, and I am a student here at UMBC, and I am working on a group project regarding classroom furniture, and we will be holding a presentation on April 25th. I am reaching out to see if anyone in your club might be willing to provide a testimony regarding the lack of accommodating school furniture, particularly lecture halls, and classrooms. 
I am currently looking for individuals who have experienced challenges with the seating and desk arrangements in classrooms and would be open to sharing their perspectives, Their testimony could help highlight the need for more inclusive and comfortable learning spaces for all students. "


"We are doing a activism project for Gender and Women studies on classroom furniture and focusing on:
  • the lack of accessibility
  • size-inclusivity
  • general comfort and space being provided to support activities such as taking an exam.
We are hoping to have a testimony, in person or written, to be presented during the presentation, speaking on their experience and any challenges the student has had, or mentioning a pattern of difficulties seen in the classroom furniture here at UMBC. The purpose is to bring different perspectives on the subject matter. Resilient Hearts: Literary Portrayals of Lauryn Hill’s Self-Love and Resistance Against Intimate Consequences

This study examines Lauryn Hill’s work through feminist and rhetorical criticism to explore the essential balance African American women maintain to survive—a balance rooted in the interplay of self-advocacy, self-love, and resilience. This is critical because African American women navigate a world that challenges their worth, silences their voices, and tests their endurance. Survival, in this context, means thriving in a society designed to diminish them, all while holding onto their optimism, power, and individuality. Through Hill’s work, this balance becomes a metaphor for a deeper truth: the constant negotiation between speaking out against oppression and nurturing well-being. Hill’s words reflect a path for African American women to simultaneously fight systemic injustices, preserve inner strength, and cultivate spaces of peace and sisterhood. This delicate equilibrium allows for survival that isn’t just reactive but transformative—creating empowerment and fostering love amidst adversity. Further research will go beyond Hill’s work to explore other manifestations of this balance in Black women’s lives. This includes gathering further data to uncover how rhetoric interacts with other factors influencing self-preservation and community care, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of how Black women safeguard their energy, resolve racial trauma, and build lives rooted in self-love and resilience.

Hi everyone, 


I've put the form for the member incentives and the link to yesterday’s GBM slides below. Remember that the deadline is for Member Incentives is due April 15th and all hours should be logged in till now. To export the spreadsheet of hours, go to the bottom of the list of hours and there should be a export button there, you might have to do it separately for each page since they are asking hours since July 2024. Let us know if you have any questions!
