Mother Saves Family From Being Slaughtered

<Tagline>... by shooting her gun-toting husband first</Tagline>

Police have praised a woman who saved her family from being slaughtered by
beating her husband to the draw in a shootout at their family home.

Troy Christoff threatened to kill his wife, two children and two other family
members after waking them up in the early hours of the morning.

As he stood loading his handgun he called out their names as he placed a
    bullet into the gun's chamber.

But his wife Dawn managed to grab her own gun and as he raised his weapon to
fire she reacted quicker and shot him several times.

The 35-year-old and her children were unharmed during the terrifying incident
at their home in Winter Haven, Florida.

Christoff, 34, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest from a 9mm
    pistol.

He was airlifted to hospital by helicopter and later transferred to Polk
County jail where he was charged with attempted murder.

According to the arrest warrant Troy had announced to his family that he
    wanted them dead.

As he stood loading his gun his wife reached for her own pistol and fired
    first.

The arrest warrant said: 'Prior to the shooting, he armed himself with a
handgun and began to load the weapon, stating which member of his family each
    bullet was intended for.'

Police spokesman Sgt Brad Coleman said Mrs Christoff had acted in
self-defence and will not be charged.

Her husband has prior convictions for assault and drug
    possession.

Do you want to see your tuition go up 10%? Yeah, me neither.

<Tagline>Put Your Paw Down on the Doomsday Budget</Tagline>

Next year, the University System of Maryland could face devastating
budget cuts that will compromise the affordability and quality of higher
education. Because the Maryland General Assembly
failed to pass a revenue package to fund the budget, a contingency
budget known as the Doomsday Budget will go into effect. This budget makes
deep cuts to almost all government spending activity, including funding for UMBC.

The state must call a special session and agree on passing a
responsible revenue package that will restore funding to USM. Before the
Doomsday Budget was enacted for the next fiscal year, legislators had almost agreed to limit the
increase of tuition to about 3%. Under the Doomsday Budget, at least
38.5 million dollars will be cut from higher education and this will
mean at least a 10% increase in tuition.

But that’s not all.
Since the cuts are so deep, almost all aspects of campus will be
impacted. Professors won’t get a cost of living adjustment on their
salaries this year, student fees will climb, food and services will be
more expensive and departments will have less money to spend on
    development.

TL;DR? Here are three easy steps you can take to make a huge difference.

Step 1) Make your voice heard - Contact Your Reps!
We've
made it super easy for you to do that, too. The University System of
Maryland Office of Governmental Relations has
set up a CapWiz e-mail campaign regarding the Doomsday Budget cuts. The
emails will be sent to Governor O'Malley, Lt. Gov. Brown, and your
representatives to the Senate and the House. Just click the link below
and use one of the pre-written messages or type up your own!

Step 2) Like the Page!
Stay updated and connected, and help us show our strength in numbers!
http://www.facebook.com/RetrieversForAffordability

Step 3) Spread the Word!
Change your profile picture,
share the facebook page, or better yet, the capwiz link! We've got you
covered on twitter too - just use #retrievers4affordability to tell us what these budget cuts would mean for you.
The more students we get talking about this, the bigger an impact we can have!

Day Five: Receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:38-39 (NIV)

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Reflection:

In this passage, Peter gives a powerful, Spirit-filled message that ends with a promise - the gift of the Holy Spirit for each person the Lord calls who turns to the Lord Jesus and surrenders their lives to Him. This same promise is for us today!

Response:

With a heart like a little child, let’s turn to the Lord and ask Him for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. May we get caught up in a rhythm of receiving the blessing of His Spirit over and over again in every part of our lives.
