Q: How long have you been at UMBC?
A: This is my 4th semester
Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?
A: I'm the Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Affairs (in the Executive branch in SGA). I'm also a research assistant in a cultural psychology lab run by Dr. Charissa Cheah.
Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?
A: I empower and encourage my staff members, while learning and researching.
Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?
A: I like coming together with people to make something out of nothing - the vast majority of my roles on campus involve incredible people. At the end of the day, I'm just glad to be in their company.
Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?
A: Everybody has a different story. Listening to the people around you can provide you with remarkable insight and experience.

A: The Women's Center is AWESOME! (Little known facts about the Women's Center: go there and you can get free tea and free coffee and take a nap. You don't need to be a feminist or female to use the Women's Center - you simply need to respect the space and the equality and freedom it stands for. It's pretty cool.)

The Art Week 2012 Showcase will span both of The Commons’ Galleries (Mezzanine & 2nd Floor) as well as Lower Flat Tuesdays and The Commons Mainstreet. All motion work will be shown on the screens in Lower Flat
Tuesdays, with the possibility of other spaces (details pending.)
Please complete this form (attached, available on the website, and in the commonvision store front) and submit it with your work to commonvision: Design & Print Center, located in the Mainstreet Lounge to the right of the Bookstore in The Commons. If you are submitting multiple pieces, you will need to fill out a form for each for labeling purposes. Unless stated otherwise, all work - whether it is in physical or digital form - should be submitted in person to commonvision during normal business hours.
Two-Dimensional Work
The submission deadline for free printing (up to $5.00) at commonvision: Design & Print Center isTuesday, March 27th. The submission deadline for all other 2-D work is Thursday, March 29th.You are not restricted by size, but please consider the physical limitations of the gallery spaces in The Commons when choosing pieces to submit. Submissions should be delivered to commonvision in physical or digital form.
Film, Video, & Other Multimedia Work
The submission deadline is Monday, March 26th.
Quicktime files (.mov) are preferred, saved at standard definition (approximately 720x480), and they may not exceed 10 minutes in length. Submit your files on a CD or DVD and attach this form to the outside of the case or sleeve.
Three-Dimensional Work or Art that Fits into None of the Above Categories

Dr. Hillol Kargupta will be one of over 80 speakers at GreenBiz's VERGE conference in Washinton D.C., which takes place this Wednesay, March 14–16.
The conference foucses on sustainability by exploring technological advances that deal with energy, information, buildings, and transportation.
Speakers include the likes of AOL Co-founder, Steve Case, Robin Chase, founder of carsharing revolution, Zipcar, textbook publishing mogul Tim O'Reilly, and other executives working at the intersection of technology and enivronmental awareness.

Okay… we know the debate on abortion can get a little crazy around the country.
But a recent debate on abortion rights in Georgia kicked crazy up a notch.
State rep.Terry England got a case of Foot-in-Mouth disease when he spoke to defend bill 954 in the Georgia state legislature. The bill would move the limit on legal abortions in Georgia up six weeks to the 20 week mark.
Representative England, when asked why the bill makes no exception for women whose fetuses are stillborn, demonstrated the depth of his compassion and understanding for women in this sad situation.
He explained these women should carry the dead child for the full term of the pregnacy noting he has been emotionally devastated by helping his cows deliver stillborn calves.
No, seriously.
Advocates of the bill defend the measure as a necessary way to protect unborn fetuses from feeling pain (current studies suggest the structures in the brain necessary to perceive pain do not function until eleven weeks after the current legal abortion limit).
Rep Doug McKillip argues the bill will, “save 1,000 to 1,500 lives”.
Opponents point out that the bill currently offers no exceptions for stillbirths, cases of rape or incest, or for mothers whose medical condition is discovered after the twenty week mark.
Others simply feel the bill is an unnecessary invasion into the privacy of doctor and patients.
Dr. Ruth Cline, an obstetrician said,
“It is time for the government to get out of my examination room and my office. If you legislators want to practice medicine, go to medical school”.
Cows and controversy aside, bill 954 has passed in the Georgia house and is set to be reviewed by the state senate.
