DAY FIVE - Isaiah 61:1-2 - The day of vengeance of our God
Isaiah 61:1-2
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn.
Reflect:
Jesus inaugurated the beginning of his ministry with these words from Isaiah. In Luke 4:14-22, standing before his family and hometown, he read aloud the scroll from the prophet Isaiah, and applying it to himself he proclaims, “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” With authority and grace Jesus was announcing that through him the world now had a real hope. But Jesus intentionally leaves out the last phrase from Isaiah’s passage. For what reason? For now, before his audience in Galilee and before the world, his coming was to be the “year of the Lord’s favor” - for now his mission was to be servant-Messiah to the nations. Jesus had come not to condemn the world but to save it. This was the purpose of him coming into the world.
But there is final stage yet to be fulfilled, a second coming that will take place in the future. As he spoke from the scroll of Isaiah, Jesus was aware of that day when he would return to earth a second time, this time in judgment and righteous vengeance.
Respond:
How can we look forward to Jesus’ return? How are we to respond to Isaiah’s words that Jesus will return in vengeance? As Christians, we can be assured that the One who will come as the glorious conqueror has already ‘conquered’ our hearts. As those who have been touched and changed in this present “year of favor,” we can confidently and joyfully look forward to his return. Perhaps for some of us, eagerly awaiting Jesus’ return is something new. Today, we can faithfully live out God’s mission of grace and also faithfully expect his return, for both to reveal God’s heart and glory.

Freedom of Speech.... sometimes
Hypocrisy at its best
Conservative speaker Ann Coulter is scheduled to speak at Georgetown tonight, but the leftists are working hard to stop this
Why, you ask? The answer is simple: they want freedom of speech to apply to liberals, and liberals only.
More than 150 people have joined a Facebook event group called "
Hate Has No Place Here: Oppose Ann Coulter's Visit to Campus." They claim that Coulter is a racist and exhibits "hatred towards minority groups," though there are no examples listed (due to the fact that these accusations are entirely false).
But here is the real hypocrisy...
When Georgetown hosted radical liberal Michael Moore just a few weeks ago, there was no such Facebook page in protest. Agree with her or not, how can they wrongly accuse Coulter of racism and hatred when there is ample evidence that Michael Moore is racist and intolerant?

So it boils down to freedom of speech, a principle that this nation takes great pride in. If the leftists had their way, this privilege and right would only apply to those that agree with and promote the liberal agenda. But they claim tolerance and acceptance... just not when it is Ann Coulter and other conservatives.

Computer Engineering Alumna, Angelique Johnson is making waves with her new company MEMStim, which recently won $27,000 in award money from the Michigan Business Challenge. According to a statement on the University of Michigan’s website, Johnson and her business partners, Christopher Cadotte and Andrew Smith, received $20, 000 for the Pryor-Hale award for best business, $5,000 for the Williamson award for Outstanding Business and Business/Engineering team and $2,000 for the Outstanding Presentation award. The team also won a $1,500 Assessment Grant from the Dare to Dream Grant Program, a Michigan University program that helps developing entrepreneurs get their businesses up and running.
Johnson's company, MEMStim, is dedicated to developing customizable micro-fabricated stimulators. According to an article from Xconomy Detroit, this technology, which Johnson has been working on for several years, is “a platform for creating electrode leads…that can be easily integrated into devices that shoot electric pulses into a patient’s nervous system.” The platform would allow for the creation of multiple leads at a time, contrary to the current process that is expensive and slow, the article adds. This means more effective and more affordable care for those who could benefit from the technology—like patients with Parkinson’s disease.
A Meyerhoff scholar, Ms. Johnson graduated from UMBC in 2005 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a B.A. in Mathematics. After receiving her undergraduate degrees, Ms. Johnson attended the University of Michigan to pursue her Masters and subsequently a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Ms. Johnson speaks fondly about her experience at UMBC and with the Meyerhoff Scholars program here.
