Assignment:  At PaRaBaL, Inc. we are taught how to market to federal entities, so that our software and services may improve their capabilities. We are working with government agencies to assist them with cyber-security and social media monitoring, practices that are quickly becoming important in our ever-connected future. As an intern I was able to gain valuable experience in several areas of interest including IT consulting, QA, and web development.

Benefits of Interning:  As the summer is progressing, I am getting a taste of the real world that will allow me to get acclimated with the norms of professional life.  The first-hand experience that I have gained has been extremely valuable and cannot be duplicated in any class or textbook.

As the USDemocrazy team desperately attempted to provide you with relevant news for the less eventful 9/12, we turn our eyes south to Chile.

Chile mourned a different tragedy on 9/11— the beginning of brutal reign of General Augusto Pinochet in 1973.

More than 3,000 Chileans were killed in the violence that followed the military coup…similar to the numbers of people lost in the US on 9/11.

A march to mark the sad day took place this year. It began peacefully until it reached the presidential palace where there was a violence confrontation with Chilean police.

Pinochet was backed by the US in his coup, even though he overthrew a democratically elected leader Salvador Allende (a relative of the internationally acclaimed author Isabel Allende),

The death of Allende, who took his own life during the uprising marked the beginning of a brutal era in Chile.

Reports suggest 80,000 people were interned and 30,000 tortured under Pinochet’s regime which ended in 1990.

Today Chile is a thriving democracy but the scars of that dark day in 1973 are still apparent.

Like America, Chile has its own 9/11 burden to bear.

Psalm 103:1-18

1 Praise the LORD, my soul;

all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Reflection:

This is the life of “being and living found in God.” In the images revealed in this passage, starting with the initial praises given to God from David, we see that the love and compassion of our Father as infinite and unchanging. Everything in the world, including us, is temporary, but He is the same right from the start and to all of eternity.  The care from our Creator is as gentle, as it is powerful.  This psalm paints a vivid picture of what it is like fully living as the children of our sovereign God.

Response:

This Psalm declares what living the Christian life is all about. Let’s read through this Psalm with passion and conviction, asking that our hearts would be willing to receive all that it declares. Let’s thank our Father in heaven for who He is and as we live out the calling we have been given, may every word of praise uttered from our mouths be reflected and resonate in our thoughts and our actions today.
