Club Meeting Tonight! Week 8

<Tagline>Web Application Security</Tagline>

Hey CyberDawgs!

Tonight's Meeting will be IN-PERSON ONLY

Our weekly meetings continue tonight, from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM in ILSB 118.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide a virtual component tonight. Due to tonight's topic, it is critical that slides are not disseminated in any form publicly. Since Webex poses a high risk of third parties recording/sharing the slides, it was decided the meeting would be in-person only.

This week, we will have a guest speaker. They will be giving a presentation on Web Application Security. We look forward to seeing everyone tonight! The speaker informed us it would be useful to have Docker installed, either on a VM or your host machine, so you can set up a lab environment during the talk.

As a reminder, this week's submissions for the CyberPaws CTF challenge will close at the start of tonight's meeting. Remember to submit your flag! Also, if you would like a hint, you can DM a board member to receive one.

And as always, Don’t Do Crime.

    Respectfully,

    Izzy

    CyberDawgs Vice President

PBHL 470, 471 required internship for Public Health majors

<Tagline>Spring semester internal applications DUE Friday, Nov 1</Tagline>

Just a reminder that the due date is approaching for internal applications for students who plan to complete the required Public Health Internship (PBHL 470 or 471) during spring 2025. All majors must complete experiential learning as a degree requirement. Most students will do that through a 6-credit professional internship (PBHL 470). Students can secure their own internship if it meets the program requirements or they can apply to our internal partners.

The internal application is due this Friday, November 1. The SAPH website has more information about public health internships. Prerequisites for PBHL 470 are a 2.5 GPA, PBHL 300, and 90 credits. External applications are not due by Nov 1, but students should still meet with Professor Birger to discuss those plans. Appointments can only be scheduled 2 weeks in advance. If you don't see any availability, check back later.

<Tagline>Participate and support local nonprofits</Tagline>

Each year, through the Maryland Charity Campaign, faculty and staff join their colleagues across the state to support local nonprofits that serve those in need in our communities. This year’s 2024 campaign will run now through December 13.

Last year, the state raised almost $2 million to support local nonprofits. At UMBC, faculty and staff donated over $140,000. Your generosity allowed UMBC to once more be one of the top contributing entities across all state agencies and University System of Maryland campuses—and made a huge difference to organizations across the state.

We invite you to participate in this year’s campaign by giving online and supporting an organization that is meaningful to you. You can make your donation using Maryland's secure online portal through payroll deduction or credit card. The portal also provides instructions for how to designate a nonprofit to receive your donation. (Please select "Non-SSO Login" to sign in.)

Thank you in advance for your generosity and your support of our neighbors and fellow Marylanders. If you have any questions, please contact Stanyell Odom in the Office of Institutional Advancement.
