Women of Color STEM DXT Conference
STEM Conference and Career Fair- OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS
The 2024 Women of Color (WOC) STEM DTX conference, hosted by Career Communications Group, Inc., is taking place October 3-5, 2024 with options to participate either in-person or online. The conference features leadership and professional development programs in addition to a career fair where many top national and local companies in the STEM fields are actively recruiting STEM interns and professionals.
You will need to register to participate. Open to ALL students! You can register to participate until the day of the event. However, it will take about 15-30 minutes for registrations to be activated and to gain access to the platform.
· The job fair is free! To participate in the online job fair only, go to: https://s4.goeshow.com/ccgroup/womenofcolor/2024/job_seekers_registration.cfm
· To participate in the full conference (in addition to the career fair) go to: https://s4.goeshow.com/ccgroup/womenofcolor/2024/student_registration.cfm and select whether you will participate “in-person” (Detroit, MI) or “online”
· The fee for the first 50 students will be waived by using the promotional code PCKDR84. The fee for attending the full online conference is $50.
· If you are interested in attending in-person and have not already notified the Career Center, please register on the WOC website (link above). You will be responsible for the hotel, airfare, and the $100 conference registration fee.

Congratulations to the winning designer of this year's T-Shirt Contest, senior Elizabeth "Lizzy" Moser, a biology major who is planning to become a veterinarian. What a fantastic design! (Sorry that the image got cut off a bit here...There is also a full image you can download below.) And sincere thanks to those who submitted a design idea--there were so many good ones to choose from this year.

Representatives Needed for Student Conduct Hearings and Appeals
Staff Members are needed for formal judicial review hearings! See the message below from Jeff Cullen, Ph.D., Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards:
As you may know, we conduct full and formal judicial review hearings for students who request them. A student might request a board hearing if they are charged with something serious, for which the termination of their housing contract or disciplinary suspension/dismissal is a likely outcome. They might also request a hearing if they are refuting the charges and believe they are not responsible for the alleged misconduct.
Our Code of Student Conduct specifies that judicial boards are composed of between 2-4 students and one faculty or staff member. If you have been in a hearing before, you know that our board members are well-trained, thoughtful, and rigorous in their questioning. Although we have many "friends of Student Conduct" that have volunteered to help out in the faculty/staff capacity, I want to avoid repeatedly shoulder-tapping these same folks, if possible.
So I'd like to open up this opportunity for others to assist us in this crucial aspect of our operation. This is a chance for you to foster the accountability-taking and ethical decision-making capacity of our students and also to get a "good student affairs experience." Here are the hearing dates and times (ALL VIRTUAL, AT THIS TIME) that I have lined up thus far for the Fall Semester of 2024 (please consider signing up for the early dates, which are typically the hardest for me to fill):

Here are a few caveats: 1) Before you volunteer, make sure you are in conversation with your supervisor, and 2) Our afternoon hearings occasionally run past 5:00 PM, so if you are on a tight timeline because of family or social commitments, just be aware that once you commit it is really important to have you be available "for the duration" whatever that ends up looking like, hence the question marks for those afternoon hearings.
With all that said, please consult your calendar and email Jeff Cullen with the date(s) you are available and willing to help out. I will reply and ask you to put a tentative hold on your calendar and then confirm the specific time and nature of the hearing when we get closer to the actual date. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), a 21st century government agency that implements and enforces Federal consumer financial law and ensures that markets for consumer financial products are fair, transparent, and competitive is recruiting this fall for the Director’s Financial Analyst (DFA) position to start in June 2025, and we want to encourage graduating seniors/recent graduates to apply.
ABOUT THE CFPB DFA PROGRAM
A highly selective, two-year rotational fellowship designed to engage young professionals in meaningful public service work. Each year, the CFPB hires a new cohort of Director’s Financial Analysts to gain a unique experience working alongside senior policymakers and researchers to help make financial markets work better for all.
