How AI will transform organizations is still to be determined. No doubt, AI will require new skill sets and perhaps new types of organization. The normal response by mature organizations is to "slap" AI into the existing business model that made them successful in the past. This is a flawed response filled with pitfalls. Organizations need to be ready to experiment with new skills, organizational designs, and business models to win in the age of AI.

We have received a number of DocuSign Temporary Timesheet submission to the AAOU SSC designated payroll preparers, and wanted to send the following friendly reminder:

In order for the AAOU SSC staff to stay independent of the timesheet routing, signature and approval process, we should not be listed as the payroll preparer on the Advance Timesheet Non-PS form.

Instead someone internal to your department other than the new hires supervisor should be listed as the payroll preparer on the form. We recommend this being your departments primary liaison with AAOU SSC/the team member who is responsible for reviewing your units Gross Pay Reports internally. If this individual also happens to be the new hires supervisor, than another internal member of your team should be listed.

Once the form completes its routing and signature process, the completed form should be downloaded to PDF, and submitted to the AAOU SSC via a Payroll & Hiring > Paper Timesheet Submission RT Ticket request.

Patricia Dubyoski has worked in the water and wastewater sector for the past five years. In July 2023, she joined GHD as a Project Engineer working on water and wastewater treatment projects all over the world. She actively mentors new graduates at her local office in Bowie, Maryland, and takes every opportunity to participate in STEM pathways events encouraging young people to pursue engineering.

Applications are open for the 2024 Future Faculty Diversity Program (FFDP) cycle. Applications are open through August 16, and the program will take place October 6 to 9, 2024.

Over the past 14 years, the FFDP at Virginia Tech has welcomed more than 300 graduate students, post-docs, and early career faculty members. This three-day program in Blacksburg provides scholars with a unique opportunity to learn about the university's culture; meet with senior leaders; and share their research and scholarship with department heads, faculty members, and students. Future Faculty Scholars also gain valuable insights into life as a faculty member at Virginia Tech, learning from world-class professors and researchers in STEM, social sciences, and the humanities.
