<Title>Can we overcome LLMs hallucinations?</Title>
<Tagline>Cleanlab claims that their TLM has the answer. Is it true?</Tagline>

    <p><strong><span>“</span></strong><span>A recent Gartner poll shows that while 55% of organizations are experimenting with generative AI, <a href="https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2023-10-03-gartner-poll-finds-55-percent-of-organizations-are-in-piloting-or-production-mode-with-generative-ai" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">only 10%</a> have put generative AI into production. One of the biggest barriers to productionizing LLMs is dealing with their tendency to produce bogus outputs known as </span><em><span>hallucinations</span></em><span>, which precludes their use in applications where correct outputs are necessary (i.e., most applications)! </span><span>Despite this, some organizations have deployed these unreliable LLMs, sometimes with catastrophic results. </span><a href="https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/02/air-canada-must-honor-refund-policy-invented-by-airlines-chatbot/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Air Canada’s chatbot hallucinated</a><span> refund policies, eventually resulting in the airline being held responsible for the misinformation and being ordered by a tribunal to refund a customer; the chatbot has since been taken down. A federal judge fined a law firm after their lawyers used </span><a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/22/judge-sanctions-lawyers-whose-ai-written-filing-contained-fake-citations.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ChatGPT to draft a brief full of fabricated citations</a><span>. New York City’s “MyCity” chatbot has been </span><a href="https://arstechnica.com/ai/2024/03/nycs-government-chatbot-is-lying-about-city-laws-and-regulations/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">hallucinating wrong answers</a><span> to business owners’ questions about local laws.”</span></p>

My dynamic role involved daily engagement in these three pivotal projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams. I maintained regular communication through daily meetings with my manager and provided weekly updates to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. The multifaceted experience allowed me to contribute significantly to the company's strategic initiatives and gain valuable insights into business architecture practices.<br><br><strong>Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?</strong><br>I discovered the Handshake internship page in mid-January, underwent a written test within a week of applying, interviewed in March, and secured the position by the end of March.<br><br><strong>What resources did you use to find your current experience?</strong><br>Handshake<br><br><strong>What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?</strong><br>I relished the warm welcome from colleagues and the inclusive culture. Engaging intern events added a vibrant touch to my experience, making the organization truly enjoyable.<br><strong><br>How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?</strong><br>I made a significant impact by actively contributing to the organization's research on data architecture change, enhancing its strategic direction and adaptability.<br><br><strong>What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?</strong><br>Be proactive in seeking opportunities, tailor your applications to highlight relevant skills, and showcase your enthusiasm during interviews. Network, attend career events, and leverage online platforms.<br><br><strong>Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.</strong><br>I appreciated the hands-on experience in my internship—it transformed theoretical knowledge into practical skills. <Title>John Lawton Successfully Presents</Title>

    <div>The Language, Literacy, and Culture Program is pleased to announce that <strong>John Lawton </strong>of LLC Cohort 21 successfully and skillfully presented his dissertation research proposal on May 17, 2024.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>John's project is titled, “Virtue 3.0." Virtue 3.0 explores the complex web of relations between modern communications technologies and shifting conceptualizations of virtue. This project examines the intersections of culture, psychology, economy, technology, and morality and suggests that virtue is currently undergoing a profound intergenerational transfiguration, which will be accompanied by unprecedented opportunities and challenges.<br><br>
    </div>
    <div>After his presentation, John had a substantive discussion with his committee about the next stages of his work. The committee agreed that the project is worthy of doctoral research and helped John consider some key issues as he moves forward into the research and writing.</div>
