Hello everyone!

We would like to inform you about the annual Earth Day Symposium coming up on April 29th. This year's symposium will be in-person and feature talks, posters, and a panel discussion. The overall theme this year is "MONITORING PLANETARY HEALTH". 

We would like to invite you to present your poster at the event. The poster does not have to be directly related to MONITORING PLANETARY HEALTH and can be based broadly on Earth Sciences. To sign up please fill out this google form no later than April 14th.  

In order to have everything on the site before the event, we need a PDF of your poster no later than April 26th.

Please, feel free to pass along the google form to anyone who you think might be interested in attending or giving a presentation.

We will continue to provide updates as the event gets closer, but please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have!

Lori's Hands is currently offering several paid internship opportunities to students in Baltimore. 

The Lori’s Hands Scholars program supports individuals who are BIPOC, Pell Grant recipients, and/or first generation college students in pursuing their academic and professional goals. Through a tailored internship experience, scholars will gain experience in nonprofit operations, program development, and community engagement. Scholars will learn about and contribute to the work of Lori’s Hands by providing in-home support for people living with chronic illness. They will support the growth of the organization through student recruitment, community outreach, and training development and enhancement.

About the Facilitator:

Zoonash Syed (She/Her/Hers) is a Senior Pre-Law Public Health major on the Administration track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys watching shows as well as listening to music. Zoonash believes that leadership is about setting a responsible example for her peers as well as encouraging those around her to speak their minds. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to promote the multiple perspectives of what leadership can entail. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Zoonash takes part in SGA as a Senator, and is doing research work that will be presented at URCAD.

Ice-Breaker: Are you a talker or a listener?
Although I’d argue both, I’d say I’m much more of a talker! I’m used to giving advice to my friends and providing comfort through words. However, I’ve learned that some people don’t appreciate this style of communication, and would prefer me to listen more. I hope to improve my listening skills more!

The Leadershops series consists of 1 hour workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and Leadership Peer Facilitators. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.
