Fulbright opportunities in the Humanities through the U.S. Scholar Program. We
will cover a variety of Fulbright opportunities and discuss how to access UMBC
internal support for application development and CAHSS routing approval.
The Fulbright
U.S. Scholar Program, the largest educational exchange program
funded by the U.S. Department of State, provides opportunities for research,
teaching or both in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

We have heard some feedback the GroupMe Link is inconsistent for new members, so the officers have decided to use the Accounting Club’s Discord.

For the rest of this semester we will put all messages or event info in both the GroupMe and discord, however the plan is to transition to discord fully beginning Fall 2024. We want to make sure all members have time to join and get used to discord. All event information will still be posted on MYUMBC as well. Harvard Law School’s Future Leaders in Law Program

Harvard Law School's Future Leaders in Law Program, in partnership with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP (Paul, Weiss), is designed to elevate, inspire, empower, and impact the lives of each program participant and the legal profession by focusing on early talent generation and igniting excitement about law as a career path.
The Future Leaders in Law Program will bring together individuals with a range of lived experiences, primarily individuals from first-generation and less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, for a weeklong residential fellowship at Harvard Law School (HLS) to help prepare them to apply for admission to law schools around the nation. While on campus, Future Leaders in Law Fellows (Fellows) will engage with HLS faculty, staff, students, and alumni. During this weeklong residency and over the course of the yearlong program, participants will benefit from test and application preparation services, mentorship and networking opportunities, field trips, as well as academic and professional skill-building elements.
This program will be fully funded, with all costs covered to participate, including transportation and lodging, and preparation materials. We will provide need-based assistance for law school application fees and LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) reports, and the LSAT administration. In addition, a $3,000 stipend will be awarded upon program completion.
Applicants for the Future Leaders in Law Program must:
- Be in pursuit of an undergraduate degree with an expected graduation date of 2024 or 2025 OR be a recent graduate (Class of 2021, Class of 2022, and Class of 2023).
- Have a 3.3 cumulative undergraduate GPA.
- Intend to apply for a J.D. program for matriculation starting Fall 2026.
- Be at least 18 years old as of the program start date.
- Commit to attending and participating in all core program components.
All majors are encouraged to apply!

The faculty have been considering changes to future academic calendars, and there is both need and widespread desire for some change, such as the addition of a fall break. At the same time, for certain course schedules, we are currently out of compliance with the minimum 750 minutes per credit hour students need to be in class for our accreditation.
But what changes would work best for the most stakeholders?
There will be no changes this fall, but if you would like to see particular changes in future, please reach out to your Graduate Program Director (GPD) to share your perspective. The Faculty Senate President will reach out to the GPDs to find out what we want and need so that the faculty may take that into account when making future decisions.
Of course, we cannot simply take away 1-3 days of class during the semester without adding some way(s) to make up for the lost time. Two proposals that the faculty did not choose to institute this fall are discussed in the attached document, to give you an idea of the kinds of possibilities that have been suggested so far. When you reach out to your GPD, be sure to include your answers to the questions below:
Would you like to see any changes to the academic calendar (such as the addition of a fall break, the addition of a day off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and/or other changes)? Which specific changes are most important to you and why? What would you be most willing & able to accommodate in exchange (e.g., semester starts a few days earlier and/or ends a few days later, time between classes reduced to 10 minutes, addition of 1 makeup session on a Friday evening for classes on certain days of the week)?
