UPDATE: Bus GPS Trackers Project Timeline
The Transit App Launch Starting Soon!
Dear Retrievers & Valued Riders,
We hope you're doing well. We are thrilled to share the latest updates on our Bus GPS Trackers Project, which is progressing steadily toward its final phase.
We are currently finalizing Data Validation, a crucial step to ensure the reliability of our transit system. Data validation and accuracy were significant issues with our previous provider, and our partners at Swiftly are working diligently to ensure that the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) reflects our current schedules. We appreciate your patience and commitment to making our project a success.
Trackers Project Timeline: Phase 4
Under each route schedule, you can find a temporary live link (provided by Samsara) to your bus's location.
Our partners at the Transit App are on standby as we await the completion of the data validation. Below, you'll find a rendering of the upcoming Transit Royale feature in the Transit App. This milestone marks a significant achievement in enhancing our transit system for a more efficient and user-friendly experience.
As we approach the launch date, we are grateful for your continued support throughout the project. Your feedback and engagement have been invaluable, and we are confident that the upcoming launch will significantly benefit our community.Remember, we are dedicated to keeping you informed every step of the way, and your satisfaction remains our top priority. Art Against Ageism
Call to Artists: A Gallery "Art is Ageless" Exhibition
The City of Gaithersburg, Maryland's Benjamin Gaither Center and Cultural Arts Advisory Committee (CAAC) seeks to promote artistic expression and creative excellence from artists of all ages and all media.
Through a joint initiative between the Benjamin Gaither Center, CAAC, Asbury Methodist Village Senior Living Community, and Art Against Ageism, artists are invited to submit an application for their artwork to be displayed in City of Gaithersburg's art gallery, located within the Benjamin Gaither Center. Two-dimensional (wall hung) works in all media, styles, and techniques are acceptable.
The goal of this initiative is to celebrate aging, to raise awareness of ageism in society, and advance positive age beliefs. All artwork submitted must reflect one or more of the following themes: positive age beliefs or age positivity, dismantling or tackling ageism, or confronting stereotypes about age and aging.

Invitation to participate in UMBC Immigrant Recognition Day
I wanted to share that
LHFA is co-organizing "UMBC Immigrant Recognition Day" again this year with other faculty groups (AAAFSC) and student groups on campus (HLSU, SACNAS, etc.) The last time we organized this event was in 2019. A few Affinity Groups also attended and/or participated in that event as well.
The last time we had this event, we focused on celebrating and coming together as a community to recognize the contributions immigrants make every day to UMBC. This year, we are thinking of something similar, but we also want to do "multiple" events, such as panels (students and faculty), roundtables, but also music, readings, and dances (UMBC's new Latin Dance Group is participating), as our previous celebrations.
I was wondering if as an Affinity group we can participate in some way during the event? or would be willing to be part of the planning committee? We are hoping for two more members.
I helped organize the last two, read some poems, and brought my daughter to the last one to listen to music and stories by immigrant students. You can see some pictures here:
