The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) Initiative is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals for the 2024 OER Grant Program.
For 2024, M.O.S.T. is seeking proposals for two grant programs. Learn more below.
Faculty OER Grant Program
The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) initiative is seeking proposals for its Faculty OER Grant Program, which supports faculty efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students at Marylands postsecondary institutions through the incorporation of open educational resources (OER) into teaching practice.
Available grants in 2024:
- Adopt/Adapt OER ($1,000 grant + Participation in the Lumen Circles Community of Practice)
- Create/Revise and Publish OER ($2,000 grant + Participation in the Rebus Textbook Success Program)
- OLI STEM Courseware Grant - Use & Evaluate Track ($1,500 grant + Participation in the NSF-Funded Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative (OLI) STEM Courseware Project) NOTE: Available for 2-year colleges only
- OLI STEM Courseware Grant - Use & Improve Track ($5,000 grant + Participation in the NSF-Funded Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative (OLI) STEM Courseware Project) NOTE: Available for 2-year colleges only
Institutional OER Grant Program
The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) initiative is seeking proposals for the Institutional OER Grant Program, which supports strategic institutional efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students at Marylands postsecondary institutions through more systemic incorporation of open educational resources (OER) into teaching practice.
For 2024, selected institutions will be awarded $20,000 grants to support significant advances in OER adoption, scaling, and sustainability in support of student success. In addition, grantees will receive strategic planning and implementation support for their projects from M.O.S.T. in the form of consultations and regular monthly check-ins.
All proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, March 1, 2024

before us – those who have made a positive difference in society and our collective culture, and who have embodied the principles
of “Knowledge is Power.”
Saving enough money to comfortably retire is a goal most workers share, but achieving that goal can prove stubbornly difficult. For Black Americans and other diverse groups, the challenge is even more paramount.

CADVC presents experimental demos of a public video art gallery, with free food and a conversation between visiting artist Levester Williams and guest curator Lisa Freiman!
The work, "dreaming of a beyond: Baltimore," is the result of the Levester Williams's Exploratory Research Residency at CADVC, ongoing since 2023. During this time, Williams has been researching the histories and mythologies of Cockeysville (Maryland) marble, a material used in many salient objects in the local built environment, including the Washington Monument and iconic exterior steps of Baltimore rowhomes. The film results from this research as well as movement workshops and other activities that included the participation of UMBC students and other Baltimore residents. Artist Nia Hampton, a current IMDA graduate student, and her mother, artist and arts advocate Sheila Gaskins, are featured performers. The filmic work was assisted by IMDA graduate student Bao Nguyen and artist Savannah Knoop, who worked on the project as an intimacy coordinator and facilitator. In Williams's words, the project underscores the "intertwined history of African-Americans' plight to self-determined agency and full citizenship, and a rather benign stone."
Levester Williams will be joined in conversation with Lisa Freiman, an acclaimed independent curator. She was the inaugural director of the Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, and formerly Chair of Contemporary Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In 2011, she was Commissioner of the American Pavillion at the Venice Biennial.

Levester Williams will be in intimate conversation with collaborators Sheila Gaskins and Savannah Knoop on his current work in progress, "dreaming of a beyond: Baltimore" (2021-2024). This conversation will be hosted within the context of a course in the UMBC American Studies department AMST 430/680 "Seminar in American Signs: Place-Based Artistic Research" This public humanities seminar explores the work of of contemporary artists and other cultural practitioners whose work responds to place-based contexts.
