The scholarship application portal for the 2024 ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods is now open! These scholarships cover one of the General Sessions, where participants can build their own curriculum based on what they need and where they are in their academic journey.
View our full list of scholarships that we offer, along with scholarships offered in partnership with other organizations.
The deadline to apply for a scholarship is Monday, February 26.
$150,000 in scholarships available

The General Sessions are available either in person or online, live or asynchronously. All materials for the Sessions are available through December 31, 2024.
Courses in these Sessions are the equivalent of a semester-long class, quickly strengthening and advancing skills in statistics, data analysis, and quantitative methods!
Required application materials may differ between scholarships, but generally to apply you will need:
- Cover letter stating research interests and how the Summer Program will contribute towards your degree or research goals
- Current CV
- One letter of recommendation

ANTH 211 Textbooks
Hello,
Has anyone taken ANTH 211 course with Nicholas Welcome before in the past? If so, does anyone on campus have the textbooks to the class that they don't use anymore (titles being Black Food Geographies, Race, Self-Reliance, and Food Access in Washington D.C., Forecasts: A Story of Weather and Finance at the Edge of Disaster and The Healthy Ancestor: Embodied Inequality and the Revitalization of Native Hawaiian Health respectively). I am unable to purchase the textbooks on Amazon and similar sites, so I would really like some help.
If anyone has taken ANTH 211 and has these books available with them, please reach out to me at
ktotime1@umbc.edu so I can receive these books to use this semester before my next class session.

NSF Updates: New Proposal Guide & Reseach Security Training
NSF 24-1 PAPPG and NSF Training Modules on Research Security
New PAPPG
The National Science
Foundation has just recently issued the NEW (2024) Proposal & Award Policies
& Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 24-1). The new PAPPG will be effective for proposals
submitted or due on or after May 20, 2024.
We highly recommend
reviewing the by-chapter Summary of Changes provided in the PAPPG. It provides a great snapshot
and some in-depth detail into new changes and revisions over previous versions.
Additionally, NSF is providing a special
PAPPG Webinar -- Updates to the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and
Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 24-1 )-- which will cover the changes and
clarifications to the PAPPG. The webinar
will be held on Tuesday, March 12,
from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST.

New NSF Research Security Training Modules
NSF has launched four interactive online research security training modules,
now available to researchers and institutions across the U.S. These modules are
designed to facilitate principled international collaboration in an open,
transparent and secure environment that safeguards the nation's research
ecosystem.
Fueled by the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022,"
these training modules signify a major first step in reconciling the needs of
the research, law enforcement and intelligence communities to pursue trusted
relationships in the global research community while minimizing economic and
security risks. They provide researchers with clear guidelines and effective
strategies to protect against existing and emerging research security threats.
The modules also reinforce NSF's commitment to President Biden's priorities to
strengthen protections of U.S. government-supported research as outlined in the
National Security Presidential
Memorandum-33.

Module 1: Introduction to Research Security
Module 2: The Importance of Disclosure
Module 3: Manage and Mitigate Risk
Module 4: The Importance of International Collaboration
These training modules can be
taken online, and users can download a completion certificate. The modules are
also free to download for institutions to integrate into their learning

Soto Ramos presents on PACE in Goddard's Engage Series
"Organized by the Goddard Office of Communications, the Engage series explains Goddard's work in a fun and nontechnical setting." On Friday, January 26, 2024, in the first Engage presentation of 2024, Inia Soto Ramos (616/MSU) joined a panel to discuss the PACE mission. Dr. Dalia Kirschbaum, Director, ESD at NASA Goddard, led the panel discussion. Other PACE scientists included Drs. Antonio Mannino, Kirk Knobelspiesse, and Craig Stephens.
PACE Science and engineers team members shared their experiences and knowledge about the PACE mission to be launched in early February. Scientists defined the mission and how it would study the ocean and atmosphere and what the societal benefits would be. Dr. Soto Ramos covered the topics of phytoplankton and PACE validation efforts.

New Program: Paws & Reflect
Gender, Sexuality, & Romantic Exploration
In collaboration with Retriever Integrated Health (RIH), we will be hosting ongoing facilitated workshops with the intention of affirming queerness, working to foster a community, centering well-being, and celebrating exploration. Preliminary topics will include questioning, “the coming out” process, and finding chosen family.
Formerly called The Closet Collective in its planning stages, this support group centers the experiences of students who were questioning if they identify as queer, are closeted either partially or completely, or who have very recently come out and navigating negative consequences to the experience by others.
Join Paws & Reflect: Gender, Sexuality, and Romantic Exploration for the first workshops highlighting identity exploration and on/off-campus resources, followed by a Q&A with various queer guests.
Due to the nature of this sensitive topic and in an effort to protect our closeted siblings, an RSVP is REQUIRED. Invitation links will be sent privately via email from one of our facilitators.
If you know someone who is currently struggling with this process, there will also be a referral form released in the coming days for one of our staff members reach out to them.
