Scott Whittier has been a lawyer for 30 years (and he teaches in UMBC's Department of Information Systems). He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, and has practiced law in a variety of contexts: at a big D.C. law firm, in-house at a large corporation and now at the World Wildlife Fund, and he even was a college professor for a couple of years.  He will have a conversation with us, hearing your thoughts and questions about law school, your legal career, etc., and sharing ideas about charting your career path and finding your place in the law.

Dear UMBC Community,
 
For the second time in less than a week, a local university community has seen its celebrations marred by gun violence. This time the incident occurred at Bowie State University, one of our fellow University System of Maryland institutions. While the two people injured in the shooting Saturday are not Bowie State students, the campus community is nevertheless feeling the impact of this incident. I have extended a message of care to Bowie State President Aminta H. Breaux, and I know that the entire Bowie State family is in our thoughts. 
 
As we advised last week after the incident at Morgan State, please avail yourselves of the support resources at UMBC as needed, including Retriever Integrated Health's mental health services and resources for helping others, as well as our Employee Assistance Program. Please also review our information and resources related to emergency management and make sure you are signed up to receive emergency alerts.

The PMP mid-year feedback meeting (for rating period April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024) should be completed by the end of November 2023. During the meeting, supervisors should review expectations, assess and update goals, and identify training and development needs. The photos, videos, and death toll have been horrifying and heartbreaking. Our hearts and prayers are with our students and community members with family and friends in Israel, as well as any of our alumni living there.

These events are difficult and the images are jarring and gut-wrenching, and we want you to know that UMBC staff is here for support. We have reserved CWB 101 tomorrow (Monday, 10/9) from 11 AM-1 PM for students to debrief, talk to peers or simply be in a safe space with others experiencing similar feelings. Students who are unavailable at that time should not hesitate to reach out to Hillel staff for another time to talk.

This hometown style apartment is on the second floor. It has a spacious kitchen with gas range and a pantry. Washer and dryer in unit. Central air conditioning and heating. Great natural lighting.

One spacious room is available in the apartment of 3 bedroom. One of our roommate is leaving mid October. Room is furnished comes with Queen sized bed with drawers and shelf. Lunch & Learn with Scott Whittier: Attorney and UMBC Instructor

Scott Whittier has been a lawyer for 30 years (and he teaches in UMBC's Department of Information Systems).  He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, and has practiced law in a variety of contexts: at a big D.C. law firm, in-house at a large corporation, and now at the World Wildlife Fund. 

Professor Whittier will have a conversation with us, hearing your thoughts and questions about law school, your legal career, etc., and sharing ideas about charting your career path and finding your place in the law.
