Hello Everyone!

A new academic year is upon us, and as things start to kick off, we wanted to let you know about some exciting news! SAD Club is back in action, and we have some really cool things in store for you this semester.

We're thrilled to announce that over the Summer, we successfully brought our newest server (Redpill) online. On top of that, we now have a managed switch providing layer 2 networking to all our nodes! (If that made no sense, don't worry, we'll go over it :D)

These upgrades will make it a whole lot easier for us to share resources, collaborate, and ensure a seamless experience for all our members. We look forward to utilizing them to bring even more opportunities to our community this semester.

Now, our weekly meetings will be on Fridays at 5:00 PM in PUP 206. You can attend online or in-person, and they're a great opportunity to unwind, make new friends, and share some laughs as we navigate through the semester together.

Due to not having clearance for ILSB yet, we will be holding our meeting tomorrow in the Student Org room located on the second floor of the Commons.  We will be meeting from 7 pm -10 pm and you are welcome to join at any time. 

While no full D&D campaign has started yet, this is a good opportunity to meet people and form groups.

The Sounds of the Futuro: The Making of Fiebre Tropical

Julián Delgado Lopera, author

What if Spanglish were to be the default language of high literature? In this talk Julián Delgado Lopera examines oral traditions, spoken word, and language that’s fleeting and usually discarded as sites of ripe creativity and engines for the making of their novel, Fiebre Tropical.

Delgado Lopera will host a writing workshop for undergraduate and graduate students on Friday, September 22. More information can be found here.

Biography: Julián Delgado Lopera is the author of The New York Times acclaimed novel Fiebre Tropical (Feminist Press 2020), the Winner of the 2021 Ferro Grumley Award and a 2021 Lambda Literary award; a finalist of the 2020 Kirkus Prize in Fiction and the 2021 Aspen Literary Prize.Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Julián currently resides in San Francisco.

Co-sponsored by the Latinx and Hispanic Faculty Association and the Department of Gender, Women’s, + Sexuality Studies.

We've had around 30 or so people who joined the discord server, and hopefully more joining us through the myumbc group! I want to welcome you all to the Pokemon Fan Club! Feel free to introduce yourself in the discord server if you'd like to. We have channels in the server for all the games, all the Pokémon generations, and different styles of play (like nuzlockes)! 

OUR FIRST MEETING WILL VIRTUAL IN THE DISCORD ON THURSDAY, 9/14 AT 5PM (so next Thursday). We would like as many people that are interested as possible to join the meeting, as we'll be introducing the club, the officers, the events we have planned, and we'll be able to receive feedback and answer questions as well! 

We'd like to host a board game night later this month, so day, time, and location are TBD!

We should be hosting two in person events/meetings a month and two virtual meetings a month (or more, we'll basically just be alternating between the two every week).

Hello Anime fans

Welcome to the anime society, on Friday(9/8) we will have our first official meeting at admin 101 and the discord viewings channel at 6pm. This is an important meeting, as it is where we will be introducing the club, our policies, etc, which will happen at the beginning of the meeting. After that, we’ll be watching anime picked by the officers, including a secret movie selection! You do not have to be there the whole time, but we do recommend attending the beginning at least, so you can get that important information.
