PhiDE is UMBC’s only all-inclusive professional medical fraternity. Our local chapter is part of the largest medical fraternity in the world with over 100 premedical and medical chapters since Phi Delta Epsilon’s founding at Cornell University of Medical College in 1914!
Our 40 members can provide you with a great support system, unique mentoring opportunities (like how to do well in your classes and how to study for the MCAT) as well as connections to shadowing, research, clinical opportunities, and thousands of PhiDE-affiliated undergraduate students, medical students, and physicians around the world.
Above all, joining our phamily allows you to make lifelong friendships and memories with a group of amazing individuals!
We meet weekly on Thursdays where we often have guest speakers (alumni, medical students, and physicians) come in to do very informative talks! We also participate together in service projects to give back to the local Baltimore community, and outside of chapter meetings and services, we also like to get bubble tea, grab food, and just have a good time with our fellow fratters!

The PreMedical Society was formed to increase student awareness of medicine and other health-related fields and to develop the skills necessary to prepare for medical school, all in a community of like-minded undergraduates at UMBC. We at the Ancient Studies council want to extend a very warm welcome to the new students who have begun their UMBC experience, and to those who are continuing their Retriever experience! Now, many may well ask, “What exactly is this club, and what do you do?”
Well, φιλοι, the answer to that is actually pretty simple! We are a club that wants to spread the joy of looking at the Ancient Mediterranean as an Ancient Studies major to the student body, and the most enjoyable parts of the study of the Ancient Mediterranean!
From mock Athenian Jury trials, to scribal schools, to Saturnalia and Dionysia, we are here to show how fun the study of the ancient world can be!

The National Science Foundation has awarded UMBC CSEE Professor Chenchen Liu a significant Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award that provides nearly $540,000 in funding over the next five years. This generous support aims to further the transformative work on AI systems, titled Rethinking PIM-Assisted GPU Computing for Multi-Tenant Artificial Intelligence.
As AI systems usher in a multi-tenant era with the simultaneous execution of multiple deep neural network (DNN) models, the computational landscape is becoming more intricate. This escalation presents new questions: How to architect a scalable computing framework for these concurrent DNN models? How can the system cater to the varying flexibility demands of multi-tenant DNN environments? And how can one efficiently construct and deploy the AI applications of tomorrow?
To tackle these problems, Professor Liu's project is segmented into three major research thrusts.
By the conclusion of this research, Professor Liu aims to herald a new era in AI computing, setting the stage for the future of AI applications. The techniques proposed could accelerate the design and implementation of AI, promoting its broader use. This would find application in vital sectors like autonomous driving, metaverse experiences, advanced agriculture, and industrial frameworks.
This grant is more than just about advancing technology. It represents a commitment to educating the next generation of technology leaders. It will support research students in Dr. Liu's Computing Compass Laboratory. By weaving research findings into course materials and championing the increased involvement of underrepresented groups in computing, the project has a vision for a more inclusive tech ecosystem.
Kol Yisrael is a 10-week cohort learning experience to explore big ideas and big questions animating the contemporary Israeli discourse. It is our aspiration to make our tent wider, to invite more voices to the table, and to cultivate resilient empathy for diverse perspectives. Each session presents competing, value-based narratives that open a discussion not only surrounding the question at hand, but also why those who disagree have compelling reasons to do so.
